Hi,

Was wondering if any has had experience hitchhiking through countries such as France,Spain or Germany. I have hitchhiked before through Poland and Czech republic and it wasnt so bad but I hear no one stops for anyone in the west, is it true?

Thanks,

Hello Mark 😊

It used to be very easy for a woman or a couple while truck drivers were still allowed to pick up hitchhikers. Now their companies wont let them do it anymore.

Also, people are now more suspicious of strangers then they used to be when I used to hitch hike.

Hey Lilly,

It's not as bad as that... At least in Germany you should be able to find rides quite easily... And if you can't find a ride you can try this site: http://www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de/ it is a sight for people looking for a ride, basically you put down from where you want to leave and where you want to go and then somebody who has a car but doesn't want to pay for all the petrol himself will offer a ride, you pay half the petrol or less if there are more people coming along... I think they have branched out from Germany and there might be sister sights in other European countries... The sight is in German though...
