So, the next leg of the journey begins, bright and early with a departure from Rio and a sad goodbye to Matt, with several fresh faces on the truck, which itself is different along with our new driver, Euan and our tour guide Mark. Newbies include a couple of Aussie couples (Matt & Sonya, Dean & Jana), another Aussie , Andy, 3 dudes from Hong Kong (Chung, Yiu and Jonny), Doug (Laandoner), Tracy (Geordie, lives in NZ), Heather (Canadian), Nathan (another southerner) and Jenni (Finnish but lives in Canada). 2 days of travelling to get to Los Rocques in Venzuela started with a morning on the beach before saying goodbye to Pucon, most agreeable. A trip in the taxi with The Bunk to the airport before flying to Santiago. Santiago appears surrounded by hills and looked impressive as the sun set in the distance. Our airport hotel did the job and the pain of the previous day's bike ride was slowly diminishing. 29/2 Back on the plane for the trip to Caracas. Finally managed to buy decent postcards at the airport but getting stamps is like searching for the holy [View Full Entry]

Uff, finalmente in Sudamerica. L [View Full Entry]

For anyone who was concerned....yes, I am still alive! And if you were worried about the story getting boring...fear not...it´s like a fine wine and only gets better! The only problem is that I haven´t written in so long that some of the details have gotten fuzzy or mixed together. Plus, I hate to write super long entries because I feel that they get boring and monotonous...but look at me now...wasting precious words. After waiting for Yaneth´s second brother until the Tuesday after the Saturday that he was supposed to show up the three of us girls decided to head to [View Full Entry]

so I am already in Germany, finally came this afternoon after missing my transit flight and spending a day in Madrid. Michal is not so lucky, he is still in Caracas, and really not happy about it. Its a horrible city with horrible people and dangerous as hell. There are military and police walking around with machine guns, and you cannot trust them one bit. Air France Venezuela suddenly decided to not let him take his flight, because the flight was changed, and apparentely it was not allowed to be changed, they refuse to give him a new ticket or let [View Full Entry]

Hola Amigos and greetings from a sunny and funny South America! ´Siento haber tardado tanto en escribir´. (For those non bilingual friends of ours - ´we are sorry it has taken us so long to write´) Even if the sightseeing has been put on hold for a bit, at least we are learning something, right??? We landed in Santiago,Chile on the 30th October and are becoming increasingly sad that our trip of a lifetime is drawing to a close...only 3 weeks left! This really is the Final Frontier. After our long flight from New Zealand, we checked into a fab hostel [View Full Entry]

After a six hours on the bus we arrived in Caracas froze to the core. The air con on the bus was ridiculous and the only restbite was when we stopped for lunch which I used to heat up in the sun! We also had chance to taste our first Arepa, similar to a pita and filled with roast pork, cheese and salad, very filling. Once at the bus station we tried to haggle for a taxi but they all wanted double what the hotel told us to pay! They were saying that petrol was very expensive just a shame its [View Full Entry]

After arriving in Manaus on Monday evening, we flew to Caracas to spend a few days in Venezuela. Our flight was an overnighter (we arrived about 6am Tuesday morning) ... and being that we were waken up by sweet little children on the boat at 5am and couldnt sleep on the plane, we arrived rather cranky and wanting to just be on our way. The goal was to get to Angel Falls ... the worlds tallest waterfall ... and we set about to arrange the tour through one of the booths at the airport. It didnt go so well ... we [View Full Entry]
