Hello Again! Ok, I know I promised you all pictures this time, BUT as is most things in this country, I can´t figure out how to get my camera to work on my house´s computer. And no one is around to ask. However, I wanted to write to you all and let you know about my past week. When I finally figure out how to use technology I PROMISE I´ll put up tons of pictures of beautiful sandy sunsets and the likes. Ok, where to begin. So much has happened. Sunday before we left my family had another huge get together at a country club. I didn´t realize that family was visiting from out of the country, so I was a little confused why every meal had to be eaten with 20 people. But now I ... read more

¡Hola a todos! I am finally in Chile and I can´t believe it! So much as happened in the past three days that it already feels like I´ve been here a week. I don´t have any pictures yet, but we are leaving for the Atacama desert tomorrow morning at 4:50, so I´m sure I´ll have lots of pictures after that. We got into Chile around 8:30 Friday morning. We were all exhausted because no one could sleep on the plane. Not to mention, I managed to leave Atlanta with a head cold and have been fighting it ever since. Oh what luck. haha. A bus took us into the city because the airport is on the outskirts of Santiago. I was afraid that Santiago would feel like just another city because it´s so big, but I ... read more

¡Hola de Sudamérica! After what seems like an eternity of counting down, I can´t believe we´re finally here! This is only the third day, and already so much has happened that it´s hard to keep track. The plane ride from Atlanta to Santiago was the longest one I´ve ever taken, clocking in at a whopping 9.5 hours. The best part was that it was overnight! Awesome. Nobody was able to sleep well, and as a result we´re all just now recovering from our travel-induced exhaustion. Stepping off the plane, nothing really seemed different from the United States, and it almost felt like we had just traveled to Miami or something--it was hot (a record 96 degrees F) and everything was written in Spanish. However, when we boarded the bus and took a trip through town toward ... read more

We were so thrilled to get to Santiago - hot showers and some English language TV, even if it was Dawson´s Creek and Bev Hills 90210! What a shame we were only here for a few days, because it´s really lovely and we liked it a lot. We actually had not planned to come here but had to stopover because of the way of our ticket worked and decided that we may as well stay a couple of nights. We could easily have stayed a couple of weeks. Santiago itself is massive. Six million people and it felt like they were all on the Metro at the same time we were. We´d read about the polution and it certainly was obvious to the eye and the throat! The atmosphere and the lovely people make up for ... read more

After saying a sad good-bye to pretty Buenos Aires we arrived to Santiago de Chile yesterday. We have managed to avoid the cheeky taxi drivers trying to overcharge us for a ride and book ourselves tickets on the TransVIP bus, which is a mini bus share airport transfer thing. It was quite a good laugh to sit in a bus with 6 Chileans and a bus driver trying to explain where we are going (the number 546 caused us a little difficulty), but we worked it out and got to Paula´s place ok. Paula is a friend of a friend from my Australia exchange year who offered to host us for as long as we wanted to stay. She took us out with a friend of hers, Christian, who spoke little English, so we had to ... read more

Hello again everyone. Last time we wrote we were in Buenos Aires and about to go to a football match. It was amazing and very different to home, we saw Argentinos juniors ( the team where Maradonna apparently first started) vs Boca Juniors. Before the actual match was the junior team match and the fans had already started to arrive to put up the banners. By kick off it was packed with both sides having bands, banners, flags even umbrellas! They only stopped singing at half time and even when Boca lost 3-2 they were still going on. We also managed to fit in a tango lesson the next day, it was really fun though difficult but we did ok considering everyone else in the class had been doing it for about a month! There was ... read more

Isabel says: As now this is the 4th postcard I gave you. I am freaked out at Chile beçause the taxis go slower than people walking! Yesterday we went to the zoo and I saw flamingos and a monkey with a big bottom (and it was itching it!) And I saw an alligator and it tried to trick me so he could eat me. And a monkey grabbing on a another monkey´s tail. We also saw camels with two humps. Now, I am out of words. 17 days left until I can come home and have a brautwurst at the Farmer´s Market and play with you guys. Bye, Isabel ... read more

Dear family and friends.... We arrived at Chile at 12:30 in the morning! Mom and Dad were surprised that their friends came to meet them at the airport even though they told them not too (because we were spending two days in Santiago before heading to the Chilean hinterlands...Ingrid here...now back to Max). We got to sleep at two o´clock in the morning. Five hours later (still in the morning) I woke up, looked around and had a breakfast. Later in the day, I went on this train-cart thing (a.k.a. a furnicular). You can go to the top of the hill (Cerro San Cristobal) or you can stop at the Santiago zoo. We stopped at the zoo. We saw a monkey itching its overgrown bum. I saw flamingoes. I saw parrots, peacocks and a whole bunch ... read more

Hola mis amigos! Well, Team Chile has arrived in Santiago. It is officially chilly in Chile, but we´re chilling! It has been foggy and raining since we arrived and the temperature has hovered around 10 degrees for most of the time. But Canadians love winter, right? There´s something to be said for living in a city surrounded by picturesque mountains and friendly people. Dr. Peregrine warned us about learning as much Spanish as we could before we left and we probably should´ve listened... we´re sure learning quickly on the job though! We spent yesterday visiting 2 universities in Santiago: UNICIT and Universidad Mayor. Both have veterinary colleges so it was interesting to see how vet students in South America studied. The Anatomy lab smells exactly the same! Tomorrow we´re getting up bright and early to brave ... read more
