Ok, so I skipped a week or so. I'm sorry, OK? Geez. Not much else happened in Bariloche. I met some other Americans, Robert and Michael, and spent most of my time either hanging out with them or a new English girl, Joanna. She was about 6'2". A giant amongst the Argentinians. Most of the men are 5'6" and they absolutely loved her for this. Many times when we would go out we'd get a guy standing on a chair to try and impress her. This would only make her mad and self conscious about her height. She was a monster though. The Dutch girls left me and I think that I am wearing thin on my house mates. Maybe it was when someone borrowed my keys from me and I had to wake Nick up ... read more

So I wanted to write this entry just to give a quick update on my status. Thanks to everyone who has been reading and supporting my blog. It's been rewarding (and at times a lot of work) investing in it, and I hope you've all enjoyed it thus far. Whenever I'm out and something is going down, I take a video and think "Damn, this is good blog footage!" My entries should slow down now, and will revolve more around my life in Santiago. However, I still will have many outings to write about. I suddenly realized that my time here will be extremely short, and came to two conclusions: 1) I shall explore Santiago, Chile, and South America as much as possible (while keeping costs to a minimum) and 2) I shall do my best ... read more

Don´t worry, I´m alive! I know it´s been a while, but things have been crazy here. I will try to get you all up to speed about what has been happening the past two weekends. I just can´t believe it´s all over and that I leave for the airport tomorrow night! It´s so sad, Chile really has started to feel like another home! After I last wrote, the group went on a wine train tour. It was the coolest thing ever. We took an old 1800s styled steam engine through the countryside. On the train, we were served a plate of cheese, fruit, and bread, and MANY glasses of wine to try. I think I tried a five different types of both red and white wines. By the time we reached our destination, I was starting ... read more

Summary in English: We just went to book an accomodation to the hostel for our last night in Chile when we arrived to Santiago. We left the small backpacks in this hostel and then we headed out of the city to the Cajon del Maipo. We wanted to go the Banos Morales and do some treking from there. But we found out there is just one bus in the mornig which goes over there. So we took a bus just to the village San Alfonso. We would describe Canon del Maipo as a weekend destination to the nature for many of Santiago inhabitants. It was easy to recognize by prices as well. But after walking the whole village we found one normall priced campsite where we stayed that night. We took morning bus to the Banos ... read more

I’m typing this blog entry from the poolside of a Santiago airport hotel and I’ve got to be honest - it’s a bit of a struggle. We’ve been in Chile for exactly a week now and had really interesting and enjoyable time; however, it has seemed somewhat of an anti climax after the (largely unexpected) brilliant time we had in Argentina. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with what we’ve seen and done here, it just that Chile seems to lack much of the charm, charisma and atmosphere of its neighbour to the east. As with Argentina, we weren’t sure exactly what to expect upon our arrival but assumed that, being so close, Chile would be similar. It isn’t. Geographically, it’s is a very unusual looking country. Shoe horned in between The Andes on one side ... read more

Hola a todos! I can´t believe that I leave Chile in exactly two weeks! The time here has been flying by, but at the same time, when i think back on what we´ve done, it feels like we´ve been here for a year. Let´s see...where did I leave off? Last Friday we went together as a group to Isla Negra. It´s a beach town where the Pablo Neruda´s third house is located (and where he and his third wife´s, Matile, graves are). I think out of all three of his houses that I´ve seen (I feel like a Neruda professional now) I like Isla Negra the best. It was RIGHT on the rocky coast and was absolutely amazing. From all of his windows was the perfect view of the ocean crashing against the rocks. It was ... read more

Don´t worry, I wasn´t going to let week four go by without writing! Last week was the end of our second week of classes. Last Thursday, Emily and I got invited to the birthday party of Atala (she is our brother´s adorable girlfriend). We ended up going, but at first we were the awkward ¨gringas¨ because we didn´t know anybody. But then, Cristóbal introduced us to some of his friends he went to college with, and we ended up talking with them for two hours about everything. We even talked about politics (it´s amazing how much Chileans know about American politics, yet we know absolutely nothing about theirs). Also at the party, I had my first shot of tequila. haha. It was great fun. Actually, Emily said I took it like a pro. haha. I didn´t ... read more

Oops, a couple weeks passed! I guess I was having too much fun to notice. *We have now been in classes for a full two weeks! The literature slash history (ish) class starts at 9:00 am every morning and lasts until 10:30, at which point we have a 30-minute break and then the grammer class, from 11:00 to 12:30. The afternoons are free for exploring the city, visiting museums, doing homework (booo), etc. I´m enjoying the classes for the most part. The only crappy thing about them is the fact that Megan and I have to get up at 7:15 or so in order to be on time. Our commute is roughly 45 minutes to an hour by Metro, so we have to leave the house by about 8:00 every morning. What fun! The nice thing ... read more

¡hola a todos! I am finally getting used to life here in Santiago. I am SO glad to finally be into classes and such. Both classes are really great and not too difficult. Usually, after class each day, I try to do something in the city other than just homework. Last week I went to a really cool museum, ¨El Museo Nacional Histórico¨ It was really well done and learned all about Chilean history. The coolest thing in the museum, in my opinion, were the glasses of Allende (Chile´s president in the early 70´s who apparently killed himself before Pinochet threw a military coup) The glasses were broken and were sitting in an empty white showcase all by themselves. To think that those were what Allende was wearing the day he die, it was very powerful. ... read more

Hey everybody!! I finally borrowed a little gadget from someone on the trip that will read my camera. So here are some pics from the desert and some of my family! We started classes yesterday. We have two classes, a literature and a linguistic class, from 9 till 12:30. Not too bad at all. The only adjustment I´ve had to make is waking up at 7:15 so I can catch the metro by 8:10. I have about a ten minute walk from my house to the metro station and then about a 35 minute ride. One thing I´ve learned: Just because it´s nice and refreshing feeling outside does NOT mean the metro will be happy and cool. It´s like a zoo; and I can´t imagine how it could get worse when it´s actually the Chilean school ... read more
