Just back from 5 days hiking the W Trail in the Torres del Paine. My words and pictures can't tell or show how fantastic this place is, its a real wonderland. We were lucky enough to experience the whole range of Patagonian weather - it started sunny, then we had gale force winds (strong enough to blow you off your feet !!!) and a blizzard, then overcast, then 15cm of snow, then complete calm with blue sunny skies and finally clear blue skies and more gale force winds. At times we were in T shirts at others we were in thermals, fleeces and waterproof trousers and jackets. This was just what we wanted, it wouldn have been as good had the weather been good the whole time. The first three nights we stayed in refugios which ... read more

After visiting the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina, it was time to cross the border to Chile and do some serious hiking! For this adventure we hopped on a bus and 6 hours later arrived in Puerto Natales...the jumping off point for the Parque Nacional Torres Del Paine. We hiked and camped in this park for 5 days. We were so lucky with the amazing weather we had and the great people we met along the way! The route we hiked was called the "W" and covered about 90 km. ... read more

My alarm went off at 4.45am on Thursday 17 September and the minibus picked me up at 5.30am. I slept for the first 2 hours of the journey but for the next 2 hours I stared out of the window admiring the breathtaking views of mountains, lakes and wildlife including various birds like pink flamingos. After about 4 hours of driving we reached the Chilean border and I received a big exit stamp for Argentina before getting another big entry stamp for Chile. Another hour or so of driving and we reached the National Park where we paid the usual fee (about GBP10), the same as all previous NP fees. If the scenery was spectacular on the journey to the Park, it got a whole lot better once inside. We stopped first when a number of ... read more

La Patagonia: Pero Cual? Las dos. Cual Dos? Los dos lados, che! Cuales. Chile y Argentina, po! Mi primer parasda fue la de Chile. Torres Del Paine. Famoso por su circuito ¨W¨. A five day trek to be made in the summer. But arriving in the ¨winter¨, I took my chances to have the park to myself, this meant less TOURISTS, less wind (cough, cough) and well, lots of mountains! KAt, my austrian friend, and I had just finished a three day kayak trip and we were ready for some more. A five or 6 day back country expedition was about to begin. But were we ready!? WE had all our gear, yes, i rented a -10 C´bag (mine is SHIT, good for tropical climates only!), our food and good spirits. Come on, we had ... read more

The original plan was to arrive in Puerto Natales and leave to El Calafate, Aregentian Patagonia. But all that all came to a hualt when I met Katarina. An austrian girl in my hostal who was getting ready for her trekking expedition to Torres del Paine. We got to swapping stories and before we knew it we were talking about kayaking through gloaciers and looking at INDOMITAs Pamphlet of kayaking excursions. Not caring how much $$ we were going to spend, we quickly desserted our current plans to go in search of the perfect rivers to kayak through. We put on our jackets and off we went to tour agency that provided such EXPEDITIONS. All information was covered, what it entailed, what equipment they provided, what clothes to take, etc etc. After signing our lives ... read more

From El Calafate we travelled down to Torres del Paine. It's a National park on the Argentina/Chile border. We stayed in Puerto Natales when we arrived to get our camping gear and food for the 5 day camping trip through the park. There was much arguing over what food to bring but eventually we decised on dried fruit and pasta, pasta and more pasta oh and a bit of chocolate! First morning we were brought out to the park with a bus of fellow hikers and got a catamaran over to our start point for this 75K stroll... The sceneary was spectacular from the start and got better as the days went by. The first day we trekked for 3.5hrs to Refugio Grey which is beside a Glaciar. We camped there in horrible weather but thankfully ... read more

Before I go on there is a big gap in my blog, which I will update later on. For those of you who have been receiving Ads blog you will be right up to date. Strange title I know but it´s so true, it will all become clear. We have just got back from doing a 5 day trek around Torres Del Paine National Park (Chile). Here´s further info on the park for those of you interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torres_del_Paine_National_Park Met a lovely couple in Ushuaia, Jamie & Alexis and we ended up doing this trek with them. So the four of us headed off last Friday (17th) to do the W walk, which is 76km in total ( didn´t know this at the start)!! So off we set on the 07:30 bus, laden down with all ... read more

We left Ushuaia on a 14 hour bus ride bound for Puerto Natales, Chile, the base for people who want to do the Torres Del Paine Trek. We arrived around 9 p.m., got off the bus, and began walking around the town with our backpacks blatantly in search of somewhere cheap to stay for the night. As we were walking down the sidewalk, we ran into two guys who also seemed to be in the same position as us, so we teamed up and started looking for a hostel and also planned to start the trek together the following day. They were 2 Israeli guys, one named Elad and the other, a Russian, named Sasha. We were walking around, checking prices of places that had space, when it started to downpour with ridiculously strong hospedaje ng ... read more
