San Pedro de Atacama is in the north of Chile and is the driest place in the world. We arrived into a little town that was straight out of the wild west... ed expected a gun fight to break out at any minute. It's a lovely little town if a wee bit dry and dusty!! We spent the first day wandering around town going to the many (they are everywhere..) tour operators working out what we were going to do with our few days there. At 11pm the first night we went to a place about 15 mins just outside of [View Full Entry]

So we arrived into Valparaiso after yet another overnight bus. We grabbed a taxi to our hotsel, which was up on the side of a hill. The town is made up loads of little hills surrounding a bay (some say like San Fran but I didn´t really see it... other than the hills). The houses are all colours of the rainbow and are built literaly on top of each other. We spent about 4 days here but didn´t get up to too much. We spent one day out in a near by beach town, Vina Del Mar, another day just walking [View Full Entry]

Being all chilled out after Bariloche we headed for Pucon in Chile. This place had been recommended by a few people we'd met along the way and so glad they did. We had any absolute ball. It's only a small enough town and is tourist driven mainly but doesn't retain that feeling plus once agin we hit luck by accident on the hostel front staying in the El Refugio. Really cool and relaxed place which was taken care of by a couple of other backpackers who had decided to stay for awhile in the town. Felt like being back in college [View Full Entry]

With Dee's voice ringing in my ear about the amount of walking etc we were doing we headed for Bariloche. This can be a trekkers paradise but we decided to give it a miss and just do some touristy sightseeing ..for a break! First good thing here was the hostel we went to ¨Pudu¨ an Irish/Argentinian owned spot. Recommend it to anyone, a Dublin couple are running it and was rreally good craic. With the bed and beers sorted we headed out to see the coutryside first by bus and on the second day we rented a car. Was great to [View Full Entry]

So after marching me aournd the mountains for 5 days Ed then put me on a bus for the entire day, we eventually arrived into El Chalten at 10pm. I went srtaight to be bed while ed worked out what other mountains he could climb in the area. The first day we both took it farily easy, ed went for a cycle and I read my book. The second day we got ourselves together and headed up to see Mount Fitzroy, the main attraction of the area. Unfortunately pretty much just as we started out it started to rain. The changing of the leaves
More leaves....
and even more leaves....

From El Calafate we travelled down to Torres del Paine. It's a National park on the Argentina/Chile border. We stayed in Puerto Natales when we arrived to get our camping gear and food for the 5 day camping trip through the park. There was much arguing over what food to bring but eventually we decised on dried fruit and pasta, pasta and more pasta oh and a bit of chocolate! First morning we were brought out to the park with a bus of fellow hikers and got a catamaran over to our start point for this 75K stroll... The sceneary was [View Full Entry]

So we arrived into El Calafate by plane, into an airport outside the town. We came outside expecting to see the real Patagonia, but all we saw was brown flat land everywhere. Not quiet what we were expecting. We headed into town and as we travelled a bit we began to see the high snow capped mountains in the distance. El Cal is basically a small tourist town living off the Moreno Glaciar attraction. But to the main reason for being here the Glaciars and especially Moreno, named after Perito Moreno a explorer goin back the ages. Went out to it [View Full Entry]

So we headed out of Buenos Aires early the next morning. We were catching a flight to The End Of The World.... a town called Ushuaia. After we finally got to the right airport and caught the flight we ended up in a small town at the very southernmost tip of Argentina. The next place from Ushuaia is Antartica. When we arrived we tried to see if we could get a boat over to Antartica but we had missed the season by about a week. We had about 4 days here so we had penty of time to see what was [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Buenos and loved the place immediately, cann't wait to get back here in July. And thats given that the first place we went was a hospital to get my mosquito bitten feet looked after. I won't show the photos! Anyway we'd made the decision that the best place to watch the Ireland Wales game was Buenos Aires, big city with big Irish population they'd definitely have it on... could we have been more wrong! No Irish pub opened it's doors until 8pm??? But we hit luck when I bumped into a few Irish lads the morning of the [View Full Entry]

Onto Iguazu then, another very long bus journey (18 hours) and we arrived on Paddy's day ( that night spent in the most un-irish Irish Bar we´ve ever been to and we were the only Irish there, great fun!!!!). This time wide awake and rearing to go - cheers for the sleping tablets dad, they worked a treat. This is on the border of Brasil & Argentina & Paraguy. The main attraction being the Falls themselves. We went to see them from the Brasilian side the first day and then from the Argentian side the next day. Brasilian side was good, [View Full Entry]
