Now this is a town you only need to visit for one sleep especially if you have no car. And what a sleep it was … no sex ...yet the sleep was sublime. My perfect room had feather pillows … 500 thread Egyptian … real sheets; not the see thru kind … enough towels for a sauna party … a posterpedic mattress … the rainforest effect shower head … only thing missing was a friend to share the 12 hours I spent in the room. The room was so fine I sang an aria under the water fall! I did have to tell them that the fettuccini on the menu was not good. It turned worse when I saw the price.... Tues 25th Sept (Cont.) Exchanged some dollars for Reais - got a good rate. Browsed around one of the local areas and found a nice ´natural food´restaurant where I had a meal. On my back to hotel 'stopped off at another restaurant for a caipirhina. However when asked afterwards for a coffee they said they didn´t do coffees( it's not unusual for restaurants not to serve coffee or tea); so ´went across the road to a cafe for one. Got a taxi to the National Theatre (got him to agree fare for R$6 before getting in). ´Had a free ticket from yesterday for a performance by Orquestra Sifonica. Brasilia is an expensive city which I guess justifies staying at a horrid little place like Pousada Vila de Zen. We had been quite excited at staying somewhere with the same name as our cat, Zen, but when we were given the small, airless room between the kitchen, laundry and loo we soon lost our enthusiasm. We had arrived after dark and the area around the pousada looked really devoid of life. But just a couple of corners away was a lively shopping street with two very nice restaurant/bars and a handy supermarket. Franz, the co-driver of the Dragoman truck, had been in Brasilia recently, and very kindly lead a group of us on a walk tour of the city. Le contraste a été radical et l´arrivée à Brasilia bien brutale. La ville est vraiment construite en pleine campagne. Venant de Sao Jorge, d´un coup je me suis retrouvée à la gare routière en plein centre ville, au milieu de la pollution, du bruit, du béton et de centaines de personnes. Brasilia, Etat du Distrito Federal, 2 millions d´habitants. C´était un peu surréalliste avec tous ces numéros partout, de secteurs, de blocs alors qu´à Sao Jorge il n´y avait qu´une seule rue encore en terre. Et maintenant je loge Sector Quadra Sul 707 Bloco I Casa 15. C´est très romantique n´est ce pas? La construction de la ville qui a commencé en 1956 est vraiment intéressante.
