Was tired of having to go out for breakfast every morning, so decided to go to the grocery store to get stuff for myself and Bryant. There was one very close to our apartments called "Big Box". Got bread, jam, nutella, cereal and milk. I was initially unable to find the milk and was very proud of myself when i was able to ask the store clerk in Portuguese and understand his reply to find it. Luis mentioned that for Brazilians in school it is mandatory to learn both Spanish and English also, but from my experience so far very few people have spoken English. Maybe we've only been interacting with shopkeepers and clerks type people who may not be as educated; whereas both our hosts and their friends spoke English. But definitely not possible to ... read more

Gameday!!! France against Nigeria at Brasilia’s National Stadium. I took a bus to the stadium pretty early because I wanted to check out what is the second most expensive stadium in the world (if I’m not mistaken). This probably just means a lot of the money ended up in someone’s bank account instead of going towards the stadium. The stadium is pretty, looks new, and there’s not a bad seat in the house. I was in the upper level (level 4 or second ring), and there you feel very on top of the field. The stands are steep up there, but even though I was up high, I was very happy with my seats (better than Porto Alegre). The outside of the stadium is littered with cement pillars I thought were going to be painted. Nevertheless, ... read more

Wednesday 15thJanuary (Odyssey Day 68) We packed up our bush camp and departed at 0800. We only made three very brief stops on the way today, including lunch. We arrived in Brasilia around 1730 and met up with Donna and Glen at the hostel. Their bus from Rio had passed us on the way this afternoon. We set up our tents and everyone piled into the showers hoping for some warm water. They were all to be disappointed here, but at least we could get clean. Truthfully, I don’t mind the cold showers in Brazil – it’s far too hot most of the time to have a hot one! We tried to get dinner ready quickly because tonight we did the quiz that Toby had prepared for Christmas. Since he couldn’t talk at Christmas, it was ... read more

Day 375 Saturday 20th October Woke up with filthy hangovers at 5.45 and had to somehow get our minds into gear and start packing. Had our breakfast and said farewell to the good staff at the Bonito HI before getting a taxi down to the bus terminal. Ordinarily we may have walked the ten downhill blocks to the bus but it was already hot when we left and carrying backpacks in the sun with hangovers is not fun. Got down to the terminal at 7.30 and we got underway at 8. My only major grievance with our hostel was that they were always trying to push there organised transport to other cities. We had got their minivan from Campo Grande because they said it was faster, but we ended up getting stuffed around badly and having ... read more

Flavia´s sister wedding day, Carol’s wedding was the most beautiful wedding I have ever attended. The family, the atmosphere, the decorations, the dress, the cake, and the alcohol everything was perfect that even someone against marriage like my best friend Winnie would change her mind after attended this wedding. The wedding took place at the Brasilia Cathedral. The Cathedral was quite peculiar in my opinion; it looks more modern than any other cathedral I have seen. The roof and walls are covered in mosaic, very colourful mosaic. The wedding aisle was decorated with fresh white Lily (my favourite flowers), everyone in the cathedral looked so happy and couldn´t stop smiling to each other. What a beautiful wedding. The church service lasted two hours then it was party time yaaaaaaaaay. The reception venue was something that you ... read more

´´Céu do Brasilia traço do arquitecto, gosto tanto della assim´´ Djavan. "I want to conquer the world"!!
