Buenos Aires Travel Blogs

Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

Buenos Aires...strong coffee, cheap red wine and even cheaper steak. Yes please! HOLA! Thats about as much spanish as I can remember from school and mexico! Ok,slight exaggeration but it was a bit of a shock to leave america and the english speaking world! luckily we have iona with us,aka our official group translator so its all good. im finding I can understand a decent enough amount of what people say, enough to get the gist of it,but speaking is trickier and im generally pretty rusty but hopefully itll get better with time! Weve just spent a week in buenos aires, which [View Full Entry]

Champagne really helps you get over the fact that you are stuck in a bus for 17 hours. Whiskey and wine help too. The bus company must have cottoned on to this fact a while ago, as we were plied with drink during our first experience of first-class travelling. We had stumped up the extra cash to get ourselves a fully reclinable seat with a little wall behind us. We did not regret the extra fiver spent as we whiled away the afternoon sipping beverages and watching movies before being fed a hot meal at the very Argentinian dining hour of [View Full Entry]

hi all we are in argentina at the moment, been here 2 weeks. ill fill you in on the new zealand antics! we arrived in Aukland to be greated by rain and a temp of 10 degrees-bit of a change from fiji. 1st job was to get some warm clothes. Aukland is not the prettiest of cities especially in the rain. we had arranged to travel both the north and south island on the Magic Adventures tour bus. so after 2 days shopping we got picked up and headed for a place called Rotorua. on the way we stopped at (30 [View Full Entry]

So here we go NO FUN IN ARGENTINA... Our second day in Buenos Aires started with shopping, well after breakfast of course. Diana needed a scarf because its slightly colder here than expected and I need an USB cable to connect my camera to the pc (forgot it in Hamburg). Diana picked out a large shopping mall - the oldest in the city and probably the one which lies the farthest away - from the tour guide. After an hours walk down the Avenida 9 de Julio - which is the widest road in the world; measuering 142m and takes approx. [View Full Entry]

It has been a while since my last blog entry and in the meantime I have started the volunteer programm. After enjoying 3 weeks of the touristy side of BsAs, I was about to learn a different side of this city. I have been travelling through many countries in this world and have seen a lot of poverty. Most of the time you just see the poor people on the street but not what is happening behind these streets. This time I got the opportunity not only to better understand and learn what actully is done (or not) to help the [View Full Entry]

So it's been about three weeks since my last entry. Since you haven't heard from me you may have wondered what happened. Well, I enjoyed the last two weeks of my trip and got back to the US on August 4th. Since then I've been busy getting my life in order, including my move to Baltimore, and the time is flown by. This will be the last entry about my trip, followed by another entry where I will share with you some concluding thoughts. Since I've been back I've been getting a lot of comments from all you readers about my [View Full Entry]
