M... read more

We had a wonderful 2 day visit to Buenos Aires. Firstly, I was impressed and grateful for the lack of pollution in a city of this size. The sky was blue! The only time I coughed was during rush hour on a busy through-fare. Noise pollution was also minimal, unlike the constant cacophony of horns that have irritated me in the Asian cities we have been visiting during the last few years. We stayed at the Intersur Hotel in the Recoleta district (intersurrecoleta.com.ar). It has an expansive lobby and smiling staff eagerly awaiting to help you. Their English is quite good. The best architectural feature are the chandeliers. I just peeked in the door of the main restaurant as I am not a fan of Italian food. Our room did not quite maintain the elegance of ... read more

After our lovely stay at Villa La Angostura, we headed back to Bariloche airport for our two 737-800 flights to Iguazu. No lost baggage and no connection problems. Our guide picked us up and we then had the fun of driving into Brazil. Leaving and entering Argentina for us as a group, with a guide, was relatively painless as we just gave him the passports and he returned a few minutes later with them all stamped. In Brazil they want to see your face so there is a bit of standing in a queue but all pretty painless. The Belmond hotel is situated inside the Brazilian National Park, which means that all those not staying in the hotel must leave by 5pm and they cannot enter before 9am. Between these hours the views of the falls ... read more

David here... The ferry journey from Colonia to Buenos Aires was quick, simple and comfortable. We arrived at the port and breezed through both Uruguay and Argentinian immigration. It wasn't long until we were boarding. This time not a little catamaran, but a full blown ferry capable of taking hundreds of passengers and vehicles. It did feel like every other person was a child intent on crying, whinging or sceaming, to the point that Suzanne put earplugs in. Thankfully the journey was quick, taking just over an hour, smooth and very comfortable. We picked up our bags, changed our remaining Uruguayan money for Argentinian pesos and stepped out into country number 15, and the 11th new country of the trip so far. The first thing we saw when we stepped out was skyscrapers. We'd not seen ... read more

ARGENTINA Hoorah we are travelling again - this time with our good friends Bob & Elaine, who we met in Tobago in 2003 and have been close friends ever since. We will be visiting Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and the Falkland Islands where Paul wanted to go to in 1982 only to be told that he could not due to other military commitments at that time. Most exciting for me though was to be able to cruise the Southern Ocean around Cape Horn. LONDON TO BUENOS AIRES VIA PARIS We flew out of Heathrow with Air France to Paris for our connecting flight to Argentina and 13 hours and 45 minutes later we had left Europe far behind and had arrived in South America. We had travelled Premium Economy though so were really lucky to have ... read more

Geo: -34.6118, -58.4173Well here we are in an industrial port with the city in the background. This city is actually on the river. It is the widest river in the world. So the water is nasty brown.Today is Fat Tuesday so no one is working other than shuttle services and tour operators. Carnival is a BIG thing down here. We are here for three days. Part of our crew gets off tomorrow and new folks board . That should be interesting. Some are even changing rooms. So glad we don't have to do that. We have a great cabin steward so that is great as well. The temperatures for the next three days is expected to be in the 80 and 90's. Dave has gone investigating with few others. I have decided to stay on board. ... read more

As my husband is not keen on cities we booked this excursion with HAL expecting to see the countryside. The drive north was about an hour and quite quickly we left the city although for more than a mile we drove past the water treatment facility! Not really a fascinating site but our guide talked about it as if it was. There was a brief stop for coffee or ice cream but we did not have cash so missed the treat. On arrival at the Paraná river we joined another coach load to go aboard a river cruiser. The boat took us for an hour viewing summer homes that are only reached by boat. We saw some wildlife in the form of birds, mainly cormorants and there were residents on some jetties but it was not ... read more
