7/1/2017 Today was our last full day in Buenos Aires (Saturday). We were told by the hostel that's there were lots of markets on. Scarlet, Erin, Jordan and I decided to go to the ones in the Recoleta district was had not been there yet. In the morning me and Erin decided to book ourselves in for the Tango show in the evening as it was the only opportunity I had to see it before I left! Jordan also booked on to see it as well. We walked to Recoleta anjd it was a really nice district with lots of cafes and greenery. The markets were cool but I could only really window shop as I can't fit anything in my bag! We stopped for ice cream at Freddos as it's apparently famous for it. I ... read more

I arrived at Buenos Aires airport at around 9.30am local time. I messaged Erin (a girl who responded to my itinerary that I posted on a lonely planet forum) when I landed and saw her in the security queue. We met after we both went through customs and arranged to get a transfer bus to the hostel together. The hostel we were staying at was called Milhouse Hostel Hipo and it was in a great location. It was very hot and humid when we arrived (approx 30 degrees). When we checked in to the hostel Scarlet was already there and it was really nice to see her! We had to wait till 2pm to check in. When we checked in we showered and went for a wonder around the area. It is a really beautiful city! ... read more

Scarlet, Erin and I were all in the same room in the hostel which was really nice. Erin is quite quiet compared to me and Scarlet but she is lovely. We wanted to go on a walking tour around San Telmo in the morning but we missed it. The hostel offer free breakfast aswell which is a spread of different cereals, bread, juices and fruit and it's very nice! We decided to walk around San Telmo ourselves and it was really interesting place. We found a little plaza that had lots of tango dancing and sat and had a coffee. We then decided to get a bus to another district called Palermo. The thing I love about BA is that there are so many different parts and districts to it and they are all so different. ... read more

Geo: -34.6118, -58.4173A couple of weeks ago Erin and I had lunch together at the Chinese food stall in Coronado Mall. My fortune cookie said "You will go on a pleasant journey to a faraway place". I am considering that a very good omen for our trip. So here we go. We've had a fun day of sightseeing today all over Buenos Aires, but first I will bring you up-to-date on the travels so far. When we left home on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, we found the parking lot at the airport as full as we've ever seen it, but yet there were still lots of spaces for additional cars. The airport was only moderately busy with quick access through the TSA pre-check line. On the first flight from Albuquerque to Houston, we were upgraded ... read more

Gett ready to leave Buenos Aires and going to Iguasu Falls. Went to a polo ranch yesterday and one of the Vantage representatives was there. Got a chance to speak with him regarding all things that have happened to me. Someone finally apologized! And he said to send him an email regarding all the other things that were wrong with this trip! Night befo last went to a tango show. Believe it or not saw the same show at the same tango club years before! I guess all travel companies go to the same places. See pics!... read more

Chile: My arrival to the South American continent came on a 787 direct from Auckland. Santiago was the stop and I had plans to meet my friend Alex, his wife Jo Ana, and his brother and parents. Alex and I went to Duquesne together and worked at Deloitte as well. It was good to finally meet people I knew. We were all staying at the url=http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1979&language=en_USW Santiago, which made it convenient. After checking in and getting situated I meet the family in the lobby and we went to a great restaurant called url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g294305-d928983-Reviews-Happening-Santiago_Santiago_Metropolitan_Region.htmlHappening. The next day we went on a tour of a few wineries and to Valparaiso. The wineries were amazing and the bus ... read more

This is the first ‘episode’ of another of 'our' travel experiences. The collective ‘episodes’ (this being the first) describe our journey from our arrival in Buenos Aires (Sth America) from the 1st week of October for an extended tea-bag experience of this huge continent. Like home, the continent is huge. In the few weeks available to us, we can only experience a few locations - a (tea-bag) dunk here, another there, and so on. After a few days in Buenos Aires, we fly to Lima for a 'dunk' into a few selected locations. We then fly to Chile to do some more 'tea-bagging'. We'll eventually make our way back to Argentina and our departure home. We attach a few pics to give a flavour of our journey, and some may 'flow over' past the dialogue. If ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » La Plata July 30th 2016

My last full day was spent having a neighbourhood wander, a shopping expedition to the main city area and then going out for a lovely meal in the evening. La Plata is the capital city of the Buenos Aires province, around 1million people, and was a well planned city from the start. Street are arranged in a grid and numbered off, and there are diagonals intersecting these with a plaza at each intersection. Each plaza has exercise equipment, cafes, fountains, childrens play equipment, some community gardens, and provide a meeting space and play area for many apartment and multi-housing dwellers. Streets are one way and the next street across is going the opposite way, so an odds and evens system which is very effective for moving traffic safely and efficiently. Interspersed in each little set of ... read more
