Hello all A surprise entry as we are in the Air NZ executive lounge at AKL airport and found a computer with free on line access Just bought a compact flash card reader so am now able to connect to USB port without needing access from slot on computer. This has been a bit of a problem in some areas notably in the centre of Auckland where there is lots of cheap access but most don't have or even know what you are asking for when you mention cf card reader. Flight due out at 14.10 and into KL at 20.00 local time - 11 hr flight. Had a nice chat with others at B&B last night exchanging ideas on NZ and places to go for them this time and for us next time!! Bye for ... read more

Hello all Well it's nearly time to leave New Zealand and return to UK via KL and Langkawi We've had a great time with generally good weather but the locals tell us the weather has been much colder and unsettled than usual for the time of year. We left Coromandel on 28th and drove north up the west coast of the peninsula to see some of the lovely isolated rugged coves and then re-traced our route down the west coast via Thames to Miranda hot springs where we spent Sat night. Again took advantage of outdoor hot springs at 38' to relax up to 10pm. Moved on top Auckland on Sunday am and arrived in time to see the Santa parade thgrough the main streets. The parade took about 75min to pass where we were standing. ... read more

There hasn’t been a travelblog for a while, and since we’ve finally done something worth writing about, I thought I should give you all an update. The past month has been all about work. Weekends have been spent drinking (of course!) going to a Highland Games (weird in November!), a shopping splurge which means that we now have computer and internet facilities at home (yay!) and generally pottering about in this city we are calling home for the moment. This weekend we’ve had out first visitor from home - Vicki, who used to work with Graeme at Glasgow (yes, she’s a planner too) has been on holiday in Australia for a few weeks and decided to pop over and see NZ in a week. She arrived on Thursday evening, and of course the first thing to ... read more

Hello all Arrived in Wellington Friday night after a very calm crossing from South Island. Can be one of the worst stretches of water when the wind is from the south. Before leaving South Island we went to Abel Tasmen Park on Thursday and took a boat from Kaiteriteri to Bark Bay and a walk along the coastal track to the Falls River swing bridge and back to the beach for a swim and sunbathing. Back to Nelson via Grape Escape for a few gifts and fish and chips at Port Mapua - lovely freshly caught. Friday drove to Picton for the ferry via Marlborough and stopped at St Clair vineyard - lovely setting on the Highway 62 for lunches etc and wine tasting. Picton has some good gift shops at good prices and the on ... read more

Greetings from civilisation (I mean that they speak english). It's been a while since our last update because we've been very buzy or very lazy. After the Inca Trail we vegged in Cusco for a couple of days doing the touristy sights (museums etc). We then headed for Nazca to see the Nasca Lines, huge patterns (some over 100m long)carved into the worlds driest desert. The only way to see them properly is by plane. A four seater plane (including the pilot)was our transport and the flight alone was fantastic as the pilot banked steeply first to one side then the other as he pointed out the patterns on the ground. The afternoon in Nasca was a bit more sedate - we toured a pre-inca cemetary. There were bodies that had been mummified by the dry ... read more
