Hi friends and family, You've probably realised by now that we're here in NZ safe and sound and having a great time chilling, surfing (I kid you not - more later!!). We had good flights out, although horribly jet lagged when we arrived in Singapore where it was about 30 degrees. Sat outside in the garden of our hotel listening to live music .. good singer, pity about his material - Englebert Humperdick is alive and well:-) We have spent a smashing 3 days with Chris and Helena - Chris has turned into a beach-bum, sun tanned, hair bleached and long (for Chris) Helena just looks gorgeous - sun bronzed and sun streaked hair - I hate her!!! At the moment we are staying at Cathedral Cove (those who know my wallpaper at work will know ... read more

I arrived yesterday in Auckland, New Zealand at about 12:30 in the afternoon. The flight was very long and tiring. When I arrived in New Zealand it was pretty much the middle of a hurricane. It was ridiculous, trees blowing sideways and rain coming down and drenching everything I own. On top of that I already was able to donate $200 to the NZ government. In the airport I was fined for a little jar of honey. Apparently there are rules based on what can and can’t be brought into the country. I figure most travelers already know this, but for the rest of us we have to learn the hard way. I had packed that with some strawberry jelly in my backpack and forgot it was there. Going through customs to get into the ... read more

Hello All, We are still chillin' in the capital city and I just added photos to the blog. It is amazing how many pictures one takes that just suck. Well I was able to put together a bunch of interesting shots and think they are even relevant to the entries I attached them to. IF you go to the list entries screen you will see which ones have images. Iworked last Saturday in "Furniture Removal" this is code for lugging furniture and boxes fro one location to another. In the US we may call it Business Relocation. It was okay. I didn't mind the hard work so much, however, the McDonalds for breakfast and Burger King for lunch that was provided by teh employer was alittle but disgusting. Needless to say my tummy is a little ... read more

Hello all. Right now we're in the city of Taupo. We just got back from a 3 day hike in Tongariro National Park which was amazing. And hard. To lighten our packs, we left our tents at the hostel and stayed in the huts along the way that are maintained by the DOC. They are pretty well maintained and clean, but the facilities are minimal. For example, they have a couple gas burners but no pots or pans or anything. There are no showers, but 2 toilets, but no toilet paper. There is running water, but it comes from a big ass vat of rainwater and technically you're supposed to boil it for 3 minutes before drinking or cooking with it. There are beds, but they're basically a bunch of pads next to each other on ... read more

There is no way i can pay justice to what i have done and the people i have spent time with and the atmosphere of this country. But i will give it a brief try.... because i know i have many people out there who care and are reading this... It was good to hit the airport in Vegas, but not good saying goodbye to the one who created and bore me. I will miss her. easy flight to LAX and then over the Pacific to Fiji. It was an easy flight. It went by very fast. Fiji was a welcomed stopover. Very warm. The people there are tall, strong with striking features. When i jumped over the ... read more

So we got back to Taupo yesterday from our 3 day tramp on the Northern Circuit in Tongariro National Park. The entire park is a World Heritage Site. Aside fron the first day of the hike, which takes you up and over a volcano, the second two days are pretty flat or as the brochure describes (undulating terrain). We did do the hike with 40lbs packs on our back, so I feel a nice sense of accomplishment after this hike as well. Also most people just do the one day crossing, so they get to carry light packs. The scenery was very odd, almost felt like being on another planet. Since I just posted another blog I am just gonna post alot of pictures in this blog. Even though they don't do the scenery any justice. ... read more

We got up to rain pouring down and strong winds blowing. We decided last night that we would go to Starbucks this morning so we took off in the rain to walk those few blocks. We haven’t had wind and rain this severe since we have been in NZ. We walk around to buy a few things on our list before returning home then decide to go to the pier for lunch. We are able to wind our way through some buildings and stay inside most of the way. We have a delicious, late lunch at Mecca on the pier and leave to go to a few more stores as we leave. The wind is blowing so hard it blows my glasses away. Michael and I search for them along the street in the wind and ... read more

We get up, have breakfast in the restaurant and Michael leaves to go to the sports bar to watch the NFL playoff games. The first game starts live here at 9:30 am but he doesn’t leave until halftime. Yesterday, I made an appointment for a massage today at 1:00 pm as Michael was going to be at the sports bar all day. I figured I might as well get loosened up before the 24 hours in airplanes on Wednesday. I started doing some repacking for the trip home, then went down for my massage. When I returned to our room at 2:30 pm, Michael was sitting there on the computer. I was surprised as I didn’t expect him until after 4:00 pm. He told me the story of trying to find someplace that was showing the ... read more
