Well, I escaped from Perth like a bat outa hell - having felt like I was there for far too long! We drove and drove until we arrived at a nice free camp not to far from Kalbarri. It felt great to be on the road again! Kalbarri was lovely, we soaked up the sunshine and swam in the sea - the first time since South Australia. Kalbarri National Park was a fantastic sight after being in the city for such a long time. One of the little treasures there was ‘Nature’s Window’ - as the name suggests it is a window carved out of the rock, complete with a gorgeous view of the Murchison River. It was so nice to spread our wings again. From Kalbarri we kept heading North and stayed in another rest ... read more

Day 186 - Cape Range National Park Another early morning on Cape Range, we’re trying to relish every second we’re here with such a beautiful view to wake up to. I scrambled out of bed early again and wandered down to the ocean, this time with the camera, hoping that the dolphins would return. No such luck unfortunately but it was a glorious morning, albeit breezy, so it was just lovely to sit and watch the day come to life. After about an hour I turned my back on the waves and wandered up to camp passing Simone and Zoe on their way out for a walk, I fancy another morning off so decide to keep my energy for snorkelling! Everyone was up when I returned and breakfast was on the go. Dar, Bel, Nige and ... read more

Day 185 - Cape Range National Park Despite the late night I was awake by 6am, Darryl was not! He had been knocked sideways by ‘cheap plonk’ and so remained in bed for quite a while! I sat on the sand dunes watching the world go by on what was the stillest morning by far since we arrived here. I thought I saw a flipper in the distance, could it be dolphins? It was! A group of dolphins spent the next 30 minutes breaching right out of the water and what looked like tail walking, it was very entertaining. I didn’t have chance to go for the camera but I did manage a quick run near to camp to see if anybody was up, Lachie was so I dragged him down with me to watch! It ... read more

Day 184 - Cape Range National Park Just a short walk this morning, well it had to slow down at some point! Myself and Bel decided we wanted a walk but not a mammoth one so went half way to the rocky outcrop to the south of our camp. It’s just glorious this early in the morning and today the wind has actually dropped, which is a first! More snorkelling was in order today and there was a determination to ensure I saw a shark! We headed for the drift loop again at Turquoise Bay which is fast becoming our favourite spot. It was the usual story initially with everyone spotting a shark except me, I really should stop snorkelling with my shades on maybe! It’s still an amazing experience though, we’re both loving every minute ... read more

Day 183 - Cape Range National Park A quick birthday shout out is in order today, Happy Birthday Tirion Hallett - grand daughter of Wayne, Darryl's Brother! So does that make little Tirion our great neice?! We don't know, but we do hope you have a really lovely day! Oh my goodness it’s so awesome here, it really makes us feel blessed to be waking up to such fantastic scenery. I keep waking up really early here so head off again for a good walk. The morning sky looks really angry today though and I wonder if there’s a storm brewing. Bel is already off for a run and although I know she would love the company I will only slow her down which doesn’t seem fair so I let her do her own thing at ... read more

Day 182 - Cape Range National Park Today is our 182nd day in this fabulous journey, the half way point time wise before we return home at the end of April 2010. The blogs have been a great way of recording our memories, we’re so glad that we have it all written down to look back through in years to come. Up until now we’ve uploaded 189 blogs, rambled on for 231670 words and shared 2130 photos! Yep, they’ll help us sleep in our later years! Anyway, with glasses raised skywards (well mugs of hot lemon barley and a coffee!) here’s to the next 182 days and whatever they may bring! Back to ‘reality and there’s a real danger that we could get too settled here in our near perfect little camp spot on Cape Range! ... read more

Day 181 - Cape Range National Park It was so funny when the alarm went off at midnight for the turtle watch walk, we both led in bed waiting until we could hear the zipper go on Bel and Nige’s camper trailer but we must have drifted back to sleep! I then heard what I thought was Bel’s voice say “Are you still going?” so I sprang out of bed quickly followed by Darryl, got dressed and headed out the door but there was nobody there! I must have been dreaming! It was quite windy so we thought we would check out the activity on the beach first then run back to get Belinda if we found anything. It was ace walking along the ocean in the moonlight, all we could hear were the waves crashing ... read more

Day 180 - Cape Range National Park Amazingly we wake up in the same spot after the windiest night yet! Our beautiful camp just off the ocean turned into a wind tunnel so there were plenty of tired eyes this morning! Unbelievably it was just gone 7 o’clock when we all peeked outside, that’s the latest we’ve woken up in months! First up was Lachie and we were straight into guitar school with him practising “Smoke on the water”, well the first part of it anyway but he’s got it spot on already. Very well done Lach! The wind is still howling away but it doesn’t spoil the outlook, just makes it a bit more of a challenge to walk! After breakfast we all head to the beach, the boys go fishing hoping for a bite ... read more

Day 179 - Exmouth to Cape Range National Park It’s a very exciting day today, we’re heading up onto the cape in the hope we’ll find a camp spot near the ocean. Everyone has a few things they need to do before we leave this morning so we whizz around for a while before reconvening to go shopping! Unfortunately for the boys they sent myself, Belinda and Zali to do the combined shop! They should have known it wouldn’t go to plan and that there would be a couple of double ups despite us walking around together. The fatal mistake was the separate shopping trolleys! It was a pretty expensive spending spree for just four days camping but one thing is for sure, we weren’t going to starve! Darryl unpacked our boxes and the exclamations came ... read more

The 673km drive to Exmouth, our longest so far, went well, with a brief fuel and grocery shop in Tom Price and a gravel road short cut which knocked 53 km off the trip. It was a fairly long drive but we enjoyed finishing off Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince, which we have been listening to on CD during our travels (read by Stephen Fry). We arrived in Exmouth by 4pm and immediately checked out the visitor centre. We had pre-booked a night in a cabin at the Lighthouse Caravan Park as we had thought we'd be arriving much later and didn't want to set up in the dark. One night turned into two when we realised we had to do some washing and shopping and would have to make another early morning departure ... read more
