The farmers markets are held every Sunday and we always shop here for our fresh fruit and veges, mostly salad items. The stonefruit has been fantastic and we are eating so much stonefruit at the moment, nectarines being top of our list. Always a good morning to meet other happy travellers from the park and share a few stories of where they have been and what to see. The beach has to be the highlight for us though and Jackie just cannot get enough of it. Every day a trip down to the beach is on the agenda, if only for a walk. However lately she is getting very brave being led on by another freind of hers a black Lab cross that dives in the water to fetch a toy, Jack thinks this is great ... read more

The Busselton Jetty Swim 2012 event took place on the 4th and 5th of February. The two day event incorporated entertainment, activities and family-friendly fun, with the swim taking place on the sunday morning. The course is a 3.6 km swim around the Busselton Jetty, which is the same swim leg as for the first leg of the Ironman event which was held in early December which was the reason we originally came here. The event has been running since 1996, and has grown from a local event to an internationally recognized open water swim event attracting in excess of 1400 competitors this year. Activities started on Saturday morning and continued throughout the weekend, culminating in live entertainment on the main stage on Sunday afternoon. Two of the major events during the Jetty Swim weekend were ... read more

We thought we would give you a few pics of some of our 'neighbours' and freinds we have met here in Busso. John and Sue who are Assistant Managers here at Kookaburra are 'fellow Victorians' (from Anglesea) and we have shared many great times with them and met other great people all with interesting stories to tell through them. Henry (Gibraltor born), and Kiki (German origin) both from Perth were undoubtably the (with respect), 'funniest odd couple' we have met, good fun. Graeme and Dora from Collie were wonderful neighbours who have been coming to Busso for years, Graeme took me fishing introducing me to Herring fishing on the jetty, we hope to go over to Collie one day whilst here and meet them for lunch. Back to Busso ! Yep, we retraced our route back along Sue's road to the SW coast and have returned to Busselton. Yes, we do like it here but the reason for our return is to sit and wait out the summer heat before heading up North. It has been quite extreme some days with temperatures recorded to above 49 C at Exmouth, (near where we are off to next), so we have decided to sit out Feb in Busso and enjoy the beach. Best laid plans of mice & men ! yeah, right, an advt for tractor driving for the grape harvest has now introduced another dimension to our stay, I got the job ! and now I am working for Bacchus Contractors driving a tractor towing chaser bins for a grape harvester....and mostly at ... read more

This Blog entry will cover our stay in Busselton (Busso) until we leave on the 16thDecember. As most of you will know this stop was the only date that we had to keep in our ‘hectic’ travel schedule as we were to meet our son Matt here who had entered the WA Ironman event to be held on Dec 4th. We had arranged to be at the Kookaburra Caravan Park in Busso a couple of days prior to Matt arriving to set up and be ready to help with his preparations. Matt was flying in to Perth (250Klm North) and we wanted to be organised prior to his arrival. We had no sooner set up and I had just suggested a drink with our new ‘neighbours’ when the phone rang…’Don’t panic, I have had an accident, ... read more

Leaving Collie we headed to Donnybrook via Mumballup and Lowden stopping to experience the old ‘Mumby Pub’ on the way. What a beautiful run it was into Donnybrook down the Preston River Valley with some great looking river flats that looked like they could produce anything, but mostly we passed Orchards. Located on the banks of the Preston River, Donnybrook is surrounded by forests, rivers and rolling hills which support grazing, fruit and vegetable growing, olive groves, marron farming and wineries. Donnybrook was originally settled by 5 Irishmen in 1894. The area, like Collie, was originally founded on timber production with mills scattered throughout the forest. With the influx of miners during the gold rush of the late 1890’s, Donnybrook prospered. In about 1890 the Chapman Family imported an apple tree which produced fantastic green apples. ... read more
