I know we just arrived home from our nearly four month trip around the world on the 22nd. October 2022 but now we are embarking on a lap of Australia. Not exactly planned for right now but that is the way it happened. As a lot of you would know we have had issues with Uniting Age Well since we moved into our Granny Flat in October 2011 and things just haven't improved. Cowboys the whole organisation especially senior management. The building was never right from the beginning, poor builders and the problems have never been fixed or maintained to a good standard. On more than one occasion we have been threatened with eviction for speaking up about issues with the building and lack of "giving a shit" from management, so it all came to a ... read more

Today is a big day. 100kms from Shepp to Wang. The weather forecast is for a max of 18 and has favourable westerly winds up to 30km/h blowing all day which is the best possible conditions we could hope for. What could have been a slog just became a whole lot easier. There was also a prediction of up to 2mm of rain but we're hoping we can outrun it. We had planned for an early start and were up at 6am and left shortly after 7am. From the hotel we had a short distance to travel north and then turned east and the effects of the wind were felt immediately. This was going to be fun. Our fisrt stop for the day was Dookie, 30kms from Shepparton. We pulled in to the sleepy town and ... read more

Geo: -36.3537, 146.325We arrived at Gundagi for lunch and I took over the driving after we had eaten, interresting place we had two buses of Chinese people before us and after they left a heap of Pakistani's arrived, on there way to the Cricket in Canberra.Driving was no effort on the Hume Highway so when we arrived in Holbrook, we decided we were going well enough so why not keep going to Wangaratta, which we did. Glutons for punishment, stuffed by the time we set up in the Caravan Park and it is 30.3o at 5.30pm, Mick still wants to cook tea and I could not be bothered, a few drinks later and I reckon I will feel better. Which I did and heated up baked beans for tea, yum... then watched a great storm, putting ... read more

I think I'm now on the toe of the foot of the last leg of this trip. Camping in the improbably named Wangaratta by way of Tumbarumba, Jingellic and Wodonga. You couldn't make 'em up. It's cool and blue down here. Well into autumn but not as we know it, Jim. Should be in Melbourne in 3-4 days if I can slow down a bit. The momentum is tricky to control after 10 months. Seeing a lot of 'skippy' out here but no Koalas yet. Oh, and a brace of black swans. Not commonplace on the Exe. That's all from Nick/Cyclopath ( in the Wangaratta public library)... read more

On Wednesday 2nd November we awoke to heavy rain and it looked as though it had been raining most of the night. We did a bit of packing and then made our way to the breakfast room for our continental breakfast. Fortunately, during breakfast, the sun broke through and things began to look a lot brighter. Our planned trip to Jindabyne before going back to the caravan at Corryong was looking possible again so, after completing the packing and loading everything into the car, I settled the bill (was it really that much?!!**?) and we set off for Jindabyne. This was in the opposite direction to the caravan but we had heard that it was a nice place and we were only 45 kilometers away. It was a lovely ride on through the Kosciuszko National Park ... read more

What do you do in Wangaratta? Well we chose to head south to Glen Rowan to check out The history of our infamous Bush Ranger, Ned Kelly. We arrived early enough to check out “Kates Cottage” and walk through the museum area and then did the walk around the areas that the siege and capture of Ned Kelly took place, and followed with interest the commentary about the interesting story. Fact or fiction or a miscarriage of justice or maybe corrupt law authorities, will we ever know? We found it very interesting and certainly felt that a lot more promotion of this small tourist town and some small innovative ideas we picked up on our USA trip, could create a wonderful visit, yet that aside, we certainly enjoyed the experience. After checking out the “what to ... read more

We left Echuca to visit the BEER SHED, reputably the largest beer can collection in the world. A couple of incorrect turns but we found the shed, not expecting a great time loser, but were pleasantly surprised to walk into a huge shed that had not only the an abosulty huge collection of cans from all parts of the world, but it includes some of the rarest on earliest ever created beer cans. Also some really wonderful collections of signs, bottles, soda syphons, to name but a few of the relics in this private “part time” collection. It was an amazing time “waster” but who cares about time, we had no appointments, and we enjoyed the time and the interesting anecdotes given by the guy looking after the building for his mate. After about 2 hours ... read more

After a long days drive (with a couple of misplacements!) I have settled into a very cosy cabin in a lovely little caravan park at the base of the Warby Ranges. Yes Ned Kelly territory! Driving between Hamilton and Ararat was damp both on the windscreen and out in the paddocks; it was very exciting to see all the little wetlands and dams full and overflowing! Not so many birds on the wetlands only one or two had duck, swans or ibis. I stopped at Lake Buninjon just outside Willaura but there were only Great Egrets (6ish), Black-winged Stilt (4), Golden-headed Cisticola (2) that tested me from the shrubs and reeds and swan and ibis that flew over. A quick cuppa outside Ararat at a slightly (ab)used wayside stop with the weather warming up, broke ... read more

27th - 29th September Monday morning came and we needed to get going on our journey down to Mansfield. We loved the Coffs Harbour area and had really enjoyed our stay there. We decided to take the most direct route which meant following the coast road towards Sydney, which is also a motorway but is often very busy. We needed to fill up with diesel in Port Macquarie but could have kicked ourselves when just outside the town it was much cheaper. It seems a bit bizarre - we’ve noticed before that prices seem to go up in cities so it’s something to remember for the future. We stopped for a tea break at Lake Cathie and had lunch in Hawks Nest which was just the other side of Tea Garden. We thought we might find ... read more

Day 103 We had completed most of the blog yesterday evening for publishing today, so when I got up at around 7.00 it was kettle on, then boot the laptop up, this gives me a good jump on the day before Caroline gets up. Caroline went to have her shower, however within seconds of going Caroline was back, asking for my camera, explaining that there was a big spider in the ladies shower room she thought it maybe a wolf spider, or something like it so wanted to take a photo. Showing me the picture I was not certain, so Caroline bravely went and had her shower and said when she approached it reared its two front legs up, which I think is just a defence mechanism. C: I have to say that if any of ... read more
