Rutherglen was only a short hop from Glenrowan but it gave us the chance to fill up with discount fuel in Wangaratta. The Rutherglen caravan park was another council run spot on the edge of a small lake. At this relatively quiet time of the year we got a lake side position. After setting up we wandered into the main street of Rutherglen to have a look. What we did find was Parkers Pies. This was obviously a well patronised lunch spot and inside there was a whole wall covered with the many awards they had received. Naturally this was just too much – we had to try these pies for lunch. The selection was very promising and the pies totally delivered with rich full flavour. After lunch we headed out to Morris wines, an old ... read more
We enjoy wine tasting in Rutherglen. (Actually we enjoy most good wine.)
Joan is happy to find a cat to pet. The cat seems happy with the arrangement as well.
Whoa there!

The Lonie Rangers have still been truckin' on but I must confess I have been tardy with our blogs. So I have begun to catch up. This blog goes back to March when we were in Victoria. How lucky were we to be in this area only days before the Mini Tornado hit? We arrived15th March and moved on 18th of March. On the 20th March, towns were flattened and caravans upturned. We truly are blessed.... read more

From experiencing the hottest day in Melbourne’s history to the coldest April temperature in 60 years, we've had enough of Victoria’s crazy weather and are about to head north with all the other grey nomads who flee the southern states for temperatures kinder on their thinner blood. For three weeks we were relief managing the caravan park in Rutherglen. One of the new skills I developed was how to evict bogong moths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogong_moth from the ladies amenities. They are lovely moths, as moths go, but VERY BIG - about 10cm long. The night the April rains came in our first week, half a dozen lay dazed and confused on the toilet block floor. They are so substantial they look more like animals than insects and at first I thought I'd just quietly walk around them ... read more

Day 468 to 474 (07.07.08 - 13.07.08) As usual we have closely followed the happenings at Wimbledon albeit with a little difficulty this since it was normally aired from about 10pm onwards - no good for people with responsible, important jobs like us! We couldn't stay up to watch the men's final so Sarah and Duan offered to download it from the net and host a Wimbledon night on Monday at their flat. We had to try hard not to listen to news all day so we didn't find out who won (although Mark did get a tip off!) We took over some cucumber sandwiches, and some 'tennis ball' stuffed potatoes, and they provided Pimms and strawberries and cream (plus pletny more besides!) for a true English night. And so we settled in to watch the ... read more

For my birthday this year we went to Lala Land on Chapel for a few drinks. Then it was off to Rutherglen for the weekend with Sean. The region is famous for it's wineries and gourmet food:). On Friday night we just made it as far as Wangaratta. We had breakfast there in the morning before slowly making it to Rutherglen. We stopped off in the historic little town of Chiltern on the way. It's like a town from a Western (it was actually used in a Disney movie). We visited the quaint homestead by the lake and had a look around the town museum. For two bucks you really can't go wrong! We made it to our motel in the arvo. Later we visited the All Saints winery and the Indigo Cheese factory. It had ... read more
