It was the last day in Sydney. We did nothing on this day, besides pack our luggage and had a quick last walk down to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We took some last few photos before heading back to the hotel to catch a taxi to the airport. It was 28 degrees in Sydney and the sun was shining. By the time we got back to our hotel it was 1pm. We stayed in the hotel for the next 1 hour. Sydney is the most crowded place in Australia. After that, we had to check out and asked the hotel guys to call the taxi for us. The taxi came, and the man who was driving the taxi put the luggage into the boot for us. It was now 2:30pm. The taxi cost just under $50 ... read more

I'm at Sydney airport. And have been for the last 5 hours. I finally managed to get the free wifi to behave itself, so things are looking up for the remaining hour before we jet off to Japan. The first day of the journey got off to a rocky start when we discovered that josh and Mel (tom's lovely cousin and partner who kindly lent their floor and couch for the night) had only trim milk, vastly reducing enjoyment of our breakfast wheatbix. This setback is sure to be one of many trials on our journey, and we handled it admirably, with hardly any tears and a minimal amount of swearing. We set off, full-tummied and determined to put the incident behind us, into the rubble strewn streets of Christchurch. Christchurch has become a strange place, ... read more

Even as we fastened our seatbelts on flight CX 697 to Delhi, we sensed the cultural shift. Our fellow travelers from the Indian sub-continent socialised unreservedly in the aisles with no apparent haste to depart, despite the hour’s delay we’d already clocked up in Hong Kong.... read more

Arrived on Saturday evening in Sydney we went for a walk to Darling Harbour and had supper. Sunday was a busy day, first we did the Bridge climb which included climbing to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was a nice experience and we had great views over Sydney and the harbour. Unfortunately you are not allowed to bring your camera so we don’t have any photos. Anyway after the climb we went out to Kirawee where Per’s mum’s cousin live and we had a lovely dinner. It was so nice to meet the whole family and George (Per’s granddads brother). Nino and Glen – thank you for a great dinner. Now just to point out we had two bonus days Sunday and Monday it was warm (27 degrees C) and sunny. So on Monday ... read more

Hello you lovely people. Matt here. Unfortunately Sophie has been suspended from blog writing entries for the day (Joking, it's just my turn..). Anyway, we're sat at Sydney Airport waiting to board our delayed plane to Gold Coast. Just finished off a $9 bottle of Heineken, it felt like drinking liquid gold! We are looking over the runway at the minute and it's safe to say the torrential rain outside is making me rather nervous... And waking up this morning to the breaking news that a man has died after being shot in Gold Coast doesn't overly help either! Well, this is just an update to the blog last night, there's nothing else to add really. Oh, apart from that in typical Matt fashion I decided it would be fun to smack my head on the ... read more

Arrived at 5:15am after a 23hour flight. Once we got to our hotel they let us check in (very)early. As soon as we got in the room we were asleep. After a couple of hours we took a wander down the street to see what was nearby. We are staying on George Street, which reminds me very much of Oxford Street. It goes the whole length of Sydney City Centre. We found a supermarket (Woolworths) and bought some chocolate, chrisp and bread for dinner :) ... read more
