After a week's delay due to all the bureaucracy to get into Australia we finally arrived in Sydney to be greeted by daughter Helen and her fiancée Blowy. They drove us up the coast to Avoca Beach which is their home town. We settled in to a nice apartment near the sea. The following morning we walked along the beach and Helen's dog Metta remembered us and came bounding over to give us a warm welcome. The next few days were spent meeting Helen's friends and Blowy's relatives, eating out and getting to know their way of life. Last Saturday I helped teach an Advanced Open Water course which was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it. There were 5 students; Karly (Australian nurse), Dijon (South African pilot), Ludvig (Peruvian – Australian who works in construction), George (Australian, TI) and Brendan (Australia, RAN). Again, I was helping Cem (instructor at Abyss) with this course, which lasted 2 days. The first day consisted on three dives, each with a different goal; the first one was to familiarize the students with the underwater naturalist specialty, which mainly focuses on identifying the aquatic life. The second dive focused on good buoyancy performance and the third dive was an introduction to underwater navigation (that is, swimming with a compass). Well 5 of the bags are packed only two remain-ours!! Kids are very xctd and are finding the wait a little hard. I myself need to just get on that plane and relax for a few hours. You can relax on a plane with 5 kids can't you? Especially when you have two of them under 2. That first glass of cold nz sav blanc is going to go down very nicely indeed!
