Trip to Packer Country
Published: January 4th 2011North America » United States » Wisconsin » Green BayJumped on a plane to Green Bay, Wisconsin to watch the Packers play at Lambeau Field. Of course there was a departure delay so I missed the connection and had to make 3 stops instead of one. My football buddy from high school and Cerritos college, Dan Hall, has a son Korey, who plays fullback for the Packers. Dan and his buddy Jeff picked me up at the airport and we headed out to Korey"s house. Next day went to Lambeau with Korey and had a personal tour of the facilities. Went to the hall of fame, locker room, training facility, weight room, and through the players tunnel on to the field. Lot's of fun, the fans are crazy and the team store is the size of a department store. Sunday night was the game, and ... read more

Packing Light and Loving it?
Published: March 22nd 2010North America » United States » Wisconsin » Green BayWell, Friday caught me drinking pivo, which means beer in Croatian (an important word to know,) along with 2 others in our traveling group. The conversation turned to packing and how to do it "light". Margaret has an advantage as she is a sailer and has this down to a science. Peg and I on the other hand, typically bring a large suitcase and a carryon bag whenever we leave the state and find we don't touch half of it. I decided I needed a distraction from my hangover Saturday (too many pivos!) grabbed my pack and started filling it. Everything fits! Some room left over! Now, all advise says to take out half and leave it home. Can I really get by with no pajamas, 2 pairs of panties and no swimsuit? Not gonna happen ... read more

The road is calling, I can hear it beckoning me, only a few more loose ends to tie up and it will be time. Today I got the ac fixed in the car (in preparation of the 100+ degree weather of the mojave), also a tune up, oil change, tire rotation and all that good stuff. Also decided on a rough itinerary. Still don't know the exact departure date but will be sat, sun, or mon. Milwaukee - Minneapolis (to see the brother) Minneapolis - Mt. Rushmore Mt. Rushmore - Carhenge (look it up) Carhenge - Yellowstone Yellowstone - Southern Idaho (guess they are famous for their hot springs) Southern Idaho - Reno Reno - LA LA - Vegas After Vegas the Grand Canyon seems to be the next choice.... Ill play it by ear after ... read more

Homesick Both Ways
Published: September 2nd 2008North America » United States » Wisconsin » Green BayFor the past few months Jessie and I have been homesick. First for the United States, a country filled with things we thought we knew and missed, and the people there we missed. And now, for the foreign country that for a year adopted us and made us feel at home. About five weeks ago we left some of the closest, dearest friends we have ever had and will ever make. We knew it would be difficult to leave Japan, but what we didn't know was how difficult it would be to return to the things we assumed would seem familiar. Before we left, I wrote that we wouldn't know the ways we had changed until we were home, and at this point it's safe to say those ways are numerous and not easily explained. I ... read more

Door County and Green Bay, Wisconsin
Published: July 9th 2008North America » United States » Wisconsin » Green BayWe left Chicago on Thursday and drove up Lake Michigan to Ephraim, Wisconsin in Door County. One of the highlights of the drive was going through Milwaukee...at least for Easton who is a Brewers fan! We stopped and bought some Brewers shirts for him there so he would have them to wear in Minneapolis when we went to the Twins/Brewers game on Sunday. Ephraim is a tiny village in Door County on the shore of Green Bay. We stayed at the Ephraim Shores Motel which has a very nice restaurant on the second level. The people were as welcoming and friendly as could be. The motel has a fleet of bicycles that you can borrow to ride through the town. At first Evan and I explored on bike and then Brenda and I. Easton insisted on ... read more
Green Bay - Detroit - Narita Int'lWell, we're back to Green Bay after an exhausting pack-move-unpack. Two weeks from now we'll be in Minami Alps. It was difficult to leave our friends in Marshalltown, Iowa, but that chapter of our lives is over and we feel Japan is where we need to be. It will be the experience of our lifetimes, but we hope to share it with our friends and families.... read more
