Let’s talk about Time and Temperature: We’re Pacific Daylight Time. We’ve all seen that on the TV listings, and it didn’t mean anything, but let me clarify it for you: Our news comes on at 11:00 PM. If anyone wanted to watch Leno or Letterman would have to wait until 11:30~~who cares that much???? When you come from Sidney, where a lot of your programming is out of North Dakota, and therefore an hour earlier than usual, this TV schedule is startling! Temperature: our weather comes from Alaska. In Montana our Canadian cold fronts are a big concern. Here we hear about storms in the Alaska Bay that are headed our way! And the humidity is a whole different thing. Today I left my paintbrush uncovered while we had coffee (of course we have coffee….we work ... read more

This day is about the men working at the Loomis Lake Camp. They’re working on finishing the interior of the only building at camp right now. It will be used for cooking and eating, as well as other inside activities. Right now they only the camp managers’ house, and a storage shed. Any campers that are there are in tents, or in RVs. Bob thinks they’ll be finished with most of it by Thursday. They need to get it cleaned on that day, because a 70th birthday party for the manager will be held in that building this Sunday. (unless it’s nice enough to have the party outside.) ... read more

Today all of us went to lunch at a beach café, and then walked the boardwalk in Long Beach. The sky is gray (and has been since Tuesday) but it’s surprisingly warm. A light jacket was more than enough…really we just needed long sleeve shirts. There are so many activities happening on the beach: people driving, kids digging in the sand (even though they’re wearing coats, and one day even stocking caps, because there was wind blowing that day), horseback riding, jogging, kite flying, playing with dogs. It’s like a whole different world on the beach, compared to in town. We went to a kite museum, where we saw the differences in the kites through the years and cultures. I thought they were just something to fly in March, (or to put on a bulletin ... read more

Last night when we came in I left my tennis shoes outside, by the door. (sand on the carpet has become an issue!) I was raised in eastern Montana, so I thought about the possibility of wind blowing them away, but it didn’t seem likely. I didn’t know about fog….this morning my shoes were wet inside and out, and I had to wear my sandals with my jeans all day! And when we were walking over to morning devotions, (which is the first time we get a good view) it was like someone had erased the ocean….you couldn’t see the waves at the shore, and everything was the same color~~ocean, sky, sand. I took a picture of it, but it just looks like fuzzy gray! I’ve posted some beach pictures taken on our beach; did ... read more

Here are pictures of the camp. When we were at Three Hills we were working at a college, so even though it was summer, there were always people around, and always things going on. We’re at a camp now, and it’s the school year (the businesses in town call it the Winter Season!) and there’s no one around but the staff, and the staff is smaller than the summer staff. It’s very different. Anyway, pictures! ... read more

We started our projects today, and I’m not in the library this time for sure! In the kitchen instead. We have to bleach each eating utensil, and Ithen run it through the dishwasher. After the cupboards are wiped down, we replace the dishes. Pretty basic, and certainly not hard work, but not work that needs much more discussion either! The men are at the Lake Camp, working on the finishing work of the interior dining/meeting hall. It’s the only building that’s up so far (other than the Lake Camp manager's house.) They work on the camp as money and time allow. The camp has its own mill saw, so they cut the trees, and then turn them into lumber, and then cut the lumber the size they need for they job they’re doing. Bob says ... read more
