We’ve become so absorbed in our travels, we left a few blanks in our blog, and now is a good time to catch up a little. The first place we really need to add information is about our stay in Lynden, because we really did enjoy our time there. The community and the surrounding area are filled with really nice people, and we had the pleasure and privilege to meet many of them. We’ve already written about some of the events we attended, so forgive me if I repeat anything, but our time in Lynden was very, very nice, and the people were a very big reason for it. When we first checked in to the Lynden RV Park, Natalie asked the lady at the desk for suggestions about restaurants, she suggested Burnt Ends, a barbecue ... read more

One of the simple pleasures of being in Lynden is the city itself, originally a Dutch settlement. The main street through the historic district starts as a very pretty drive through a wide tree-lined street with beautiful homes and churches for a mile or so before everything opens up at the business center. This runs maybe 5 or so city blocks with a big windmill at the beginning and a nice little city park at the other end. In between are many buildings, most of them original construction, and the architecture is well worth admiring. Along the sidewalks on both sides of the street are huge hanging baskets of flowers. Back in the States Missed not sending out our travels, but the WiFi was p...poor in many places and things got complicated. The first night after we left Hyder after seeing only the black bears, we went to Kitwangi. The spelling is different on the printed info and the photo gps. I think it has to do with the First Nation spelling vs the pronunciation of it. But this is a First Nation community with totems. Terrie is really into the totems while Mom was into the mushrooms! There were paper signs up everywhere for the mushroom ? brokers. Apparently there area has a Hugh amount of Wild mushrooms that the locals gather and sell to the brokers who then send them on to Vancouver. From there they are bought and sent all over the world ... read more

Day 72 of the Retirement trip It's hard to believe it has been a week ago today that we have left the group in Smithers, BC. Looking back, we drove 206 mls. from Stewart/Hyder to Smithers. We had drinks with Jim and Connie and made plans to see them in Arizona in November. That night the group had a farewell dinner. We went around the room telling what we liked the most or our favorite memory. I spoke for Pat and I and said I would definitely miss the Trip Log to keep track of where we were going, that all the amazing views along the way were my favorite. Finally, I added a thank you to the group for all the help they gave us "Green horns", getting us through our first big adventure. Jack ... read more
