A last toast Day 72 of the Retirement trip
It's hard to believe it has been a week ago today that we have left the group in Smithers, BC. Looking back, we drove 206 mls. from Stewart/Hyder to Smithers. We had drinks with Jim and Connie and made plans to see them in Arizona in November. That night the group had a farewell dinner. We went around the room telling what we liked the most or our favorite memory. I spoke for Pat and I and said I would definitely miss the Trip Log to keep track of where we were going, that all the amazing views along the way were my favorite. Finally, I added a thank you to the group for all the help they gave us "Green horns", getting us through our first big adventure. Jack and Linda entertained us for the last time, and Pat joined them in Happy Trails To You, Jack said he couldn't make it through alone. Several of the people had written verses as a tribute to thank them for the entertainment they had provided and for the funny verses they had written for each of us. We helped Jim and Connie with their poem

Jack and Linda entertaining at the farewell dinner Pat played the guitar and I played the shakers between verses. We exchanged contact cards with each other and one of the ladies is organizing a reunion next year in Branson. Later that night we sat around the campfire one last time. The next morning we had donuts and coffee and said our final goodbyes.
Our first stop was Prince George. We stayed 3 nights there to gather our wits about us. A few of the group had also booked the same RV park and we had dinner with them.
September 5 we left Bee Lazee RV park and headed to Hope, BC for a couple of days. We drove along the Mighty Frazier River looking down the canyon at the train going through the tunnels. We went through a few tunnels our selves one, called Hells Gate. There was a tram that went 500ft. down to the river, one day we will be back and take it. We stayed in Hope (where Rambo was filmed) two days at the Wild Rose RV park, with mountains all around us. Saturday September 7 we crossed the border into the good ol' USofA. We are so glad to be home.

Pranksters stayed up late and "decorated" one of the tow cars. Some of us never grow up. The border agent said "Welcome home" before we drove away. Annaka, Pat Martin's granddaughter met us for lunch, then we drove around the quaint little town of Lynden. We spotted the Church and went on Sunday and ate lunch at a German Restaurant.
Today we are headed to Port Angeles, WA on the Olympic Peninsula. We will be at the Elwa dam RV Park for 10 days.
