So bear with me if there are misspelled words and the grammar is incorrect. Thanks for reading. We had a delightful breakfast at the Cassadas. Besides scrambled eggs, they fixed french toast. My favorite. As we sat around the table, we talked about all of the names of the children. And how they got their names, and the middle names also. I think it is important that we acknowledge each of the kids. I encouraged Rebekah and her upcoming responsibilities as a teen and getting her driver's license. I said "You have to get the trust of your parents. When your folks tell you to come ... read more

So bear with me if there are misspelled words and the grammar is incorrect. Thanks for reading. This morning, we slept in a bit. I did some computer work, scouting out our next stops and so on.We left for Joe and Bonnie Henriques' house just around 10am. Joe and Bob Henriques are brothers. We had a nice 30 minute drive there. Very nice conversation. Drove back by way of an estate sale. Didn't buy anything. After coming home, we did a load of laundry, then I showed the Cassada kids how this Letterboxing thing works. Fortunately, there was a LB just within walking distance of ... read more

I did get up several times during the night. Glenn said "be sure and take your flash light." Dark here. Glenn covered up the small basement windows, so no sun came through, that is how I got to sleep so well.We were running the hot shower for a bit, which made the alarm go off. Glenn just waved the towel in front of the smoke detector, to turn the high pitched sound down.We had a great visit ... read more

Geo: 39.0095, -77.4647We were on time and, once again, were very thankful to have our Global Entry memberships, as the lines for immigration were the longest I have ever seen. We arrived right at 3:00pm, in the midst of all the international arrivals from Europe. We were through in a breeze and, as usual, had to wait for the bags. The Customs line was just as bad, but again we were able to bypass it, and in under 30 minutes after landing we were in a cab on our way home.... read more

Geo: 38.9821, -77.5386We were all a little subdued during the ride home. I know Anna was none-too-happy to be coming home, essentially, to begin school. That disappointment was compounded by the fact that Chip would not be home when we got there. She had been looking at pictures of him throughout our trip and was really missing him.Things were in order in the house, and my jerry-rigged timed sprinkler had worked in our absence and managed to keep my tomato plants alive while we were gone. It was obvious it hadn't rained, and the grass showed it, but by-God we've got tomatoes! It was still early enough to unpack and even begin laundry, but we were all in bed by 8:00pm, as all three of us were working the next day...well, Anna didn't have to work until ... read more

Geo: 39.0095, -77.4647When booking our tickets on SAS, I learned that they have a unique system whereby you can "bid" for an upgrade to Business Class or their Premium Economy product, which is called "SAS Plus." You have the option of stating how much you would pay for an upgrade, and 36 hours before departure they'll tell you if your offer is accepted. I low-balled a bid for SAS Plus and was pleased when we received word the day earlier that it had been accepted. This would mean more legroom and a bigger seat for the overnight flight. The lines in security were very long and, as we were flying a foreign airline, we could not use TSA PreCheck. Still, we cleared in plenty of time to spend an hour or so in the Lufthansa lounge before ... read more

Geo: 38.9821, -77.5386We booked this trip way back in December of last year, after seeing a good cruise itinerary for the Baltics and given the availability of airline tickets for which I could use United Airlines miles. We booked with MSC Cruises, the same line we took to Norway two years ago, as well as for our Christmas cruise in 2013. We ended up booking the exact same ship we'd taken to Norway -- the MSC Musica. When we were looking for cruises, I was glad to see that this Baltic sailing left from Copenhagen. It turns out the main departure point was Kiel, in Germany, from where roughly 90% of guests on this sailing would depart. MSC, however, allows smaller numbers of people to board at intermediate points, so we ended up being three of ... read more

My flight wasn't leaving from the airport in Baltimore until the early evening, meaning that I had the morning to do some more sightseeing. I had been looking online for more free tours, I've become a bit addicted to them, and found one for Arlington National Cemetery. The cemetery is a short subway ride out of the city and it didn't take me too long to get there. I met the tour group at the office at the entrance to the cemetery and from there we headed inside. Arlington National Cemetery is a 624 acres military cemetery, which was established in 1864. The dead of the nation's conflicts have been buried here since the Civil War, and the dead from earlier battles have been re-interred in the cemetery. Private William Henry Christman of Pennsylvania was the ... read more
