Product Review A short list of products and companies that served us well in our travels, and a shorter list of a few that didn't: 1. Western Mountaineering Sleeping Bags: Wicked light sleeping bags (1 lb.) that zip flat and zip to a featherweight sleep sheet. So we all had slept in great comfort for just about 2 lbs. for 4 people. And they sold them to us at cost! 2. Pacsafe Daypack: Wire mesh lined day pack that has locking cable to close it all up. We thought it a bit too much before we left, but everytime we left our hotel (or rooms much less secure), we locked all our valuables inside, hooked the cable to some piece of furniture, and had much more peace of mind (and much less stuff to carry around ... read more

Part 23 May 20 Verona, Wisconsin I had thought I'd end this blog when we left for the US, but it seems a small bit on our return is in order. For the most part, there wasn't much of a culture shock as Australia and New Zealand are a pretty good transition to developed western living. Coming straight back the US from Asia would surely be more abrupt. Leaving Australia was sad for me much more than anyone else. In many ways there was emotion about accomplishing something overall in our travels and great pride in the kids and Elaine, but mostly it was a feeling of having to end what has been a wonderful adventure and a lifestyle that is not all that hard for me to enjoy. And our last couple days in Oz ... read more

Hello all, We are back in the Vermont, safe and sound. We flew into New York City on May 6. Within a few days, Ari started an abbreviated school schedule (only Spanish class and Jazz Band) and working on a nearby farm. Paul stayed in New Jersey for ten days to assist his mother who is recovering from surgery. It is good to be back home but we also miss the people and places we came to know during our travels. In a word, our trip to Chile and Argentina was wonderful. Thanks to all for your interest and support. We look forward to visiting with each of you to share stories. Please find below some aditional pictures from our trip. Ciao for now, Ari and Paul... read more

Josh and I left the craziness of NYC amidst a greenish looking cloud that eventually ended in a fluffy white snow storm. Snow and crazy traffic was a clear sign that our NYC experience probably should be coming to an end. A hour plus after leaving Long Island, we crossed the bridge that separated us from night and day, otherwise known as NYC and upstate NY. Heading up to Poughkeepsie was absolutely beautiful. The snow subsided and became rain, then drizzle and finally blue skies. Our route took us through a tree lined highway and rolling hills...Josh and I both decided that New York has done a great thing for the environment by keeping all of the people in one big spot - Manhattan, and letting nature spread throughout the other areas of the state. We ... read more

This week i decided to drop "financial institutions and markets" because its on Monday and Wednesdays. I've picked up Business Policy which is on tuesdays and thursdays because it gives us Monday Wednesday Friday as snowboarding days. Have been listening to the one dayers at abc.net.au/cricket. We spent most nights this week partying in the Living/Learning Centre. Thursday was Australia day. We both had classes all day so i wore my "Australia" jumper, and aussie flag hat. Got a lot of funny looks. After uni melissa and i went done to a pub called coyote's for some exchange student thing, i met a good bloke from england called Tal. Afterwards we came back to our room and got a carton of Fosters from the bottlo. The Austrian Tom, our neighbors Max and Buddy, and Max's mate ... read more

Well this week was a bit of a reality check - in this country, the lecturers expect you to do homework for your classes. crazy i know. There are a couple of MBA students in one of my 'senior' level classes, so i think that one's gonna be tough. We went to a basketball game, and the UVM Catamounts beat the Albany Great Danes pretty comprehensively. On Saturday there was a $10 lift ticket deal with the UVM ski and snowboard club, and so we got on the bus to sugarbush. It was my first time snowboarding, and the conditions were really slushy after rain for the past few days. Hurt my knee pretty badly and got a corked shoulder (which ended up hurting pretty badly for a couple of weeks). We did a black diamond ... read more

Well we got up bright and early, and admittedly not feeling 100% after being out late celebrating our last night in NYC the night before. Caught the subway to JFK airport - a mission in itself when you're carrying all your bags, and flew up to Burlington. We were met at the airport by Marta and Allison, two uvm students who'd landed the job of picking up the international kids and showing them around. For the first few days there were no american students here, so we got to know some of the international kids really well. we went to a few parties at different people's houses, mostly Allison and Marta's and their friends. Was good fun. We got a good snowfall on the friday night and saturday, and tom and i went to one of ... read more
