So First off sorry that this blog post is late. I have had no access to the internet until late night before last, and by then I was ready for bed. Anyway, we left Los Angeles late on Wednesday evening, the latest I have ever left on a train which is at 2200 hrs. We left on time headed east with a train consisting of 2 engines, baggage car, sleeper, lounge, diner, three coaches and our sleeper, more on that later. After a short visit to the back window, I turned in for the night. I woke up briefly somewhere around Palm Springs due to the lights coming in the window. Jennifer didn’t sleep until sometime around 0200 as she was wide awake. I woke up about again about 0530 somewhere between Yuma and Phoenix. Seeing ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956This morning, we had breakfast in the hotel again then spent the morning in the room so Phil could get caught up on his grading. The first speaker that we wanted to hear today was David McKay, a photographer who leads trips all over the world while teaching his attendees to photograph the places they see. He had a few tips, but the presentation was geared to the beginning photographer so I didn't hear much of anything new to me. I think his trips would be fun though as he works with individuals at whatever level they are at. We had a break after the first talk and spent a little more time looking at the exhibits and picking up travel brochures. The companies exhibiting there were mostly smaller ones offering tours and trips. ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956After breakfast in the hotel this morning, we were ready to go to the Dallas Market Hall for the travel show by 9:30. It opened at 10, and we left the hotel early so we would be sure to be able to pick up our tickets and be in line to go in as soon as it opened. Rick Steves was scheduled to speak at 10:15, and we did not know how big the seating area would be for his presentation so we wanted to be there early. As it turned out, we got there a little too early, picked up our tickets, then went across the street to the Renaissance Hotel to sit in the lobby to wait. When we returned to the hall, there was a long line to get into the ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956We drove the rest of the way to Dallas today. It was only about a four-hour drive. The GPS in the RAV4 took us on a route that we haven't taken into Dallas before. We passed through Decatur on 287 then about 15 miles later turned east on highway 114. We stayed on it until it joined 183 then I35E and became the Stemmons Freeway. It was much easier than the way we usually go although it was on smaller roads. There was some construction, but not too much traffic. We arrived at the hotel by 2 p.m. so we weren't out during most of the traffic. After checking into the hotel, Phil was able to get his schoolwork finished. We walked next door to Whatburger for a take-out dinner. ... read more

We've gotten many visitors over the years, and seeing how much fun they have in our city has made us realize that Dallas has a lot to offer. Even though we've lived here for almost 7 years, we are still always discovering new things about this city every day. If Dallas makes you think of cowboys and southern accents, then you would be right. But there is a whole lot more you may not know about... like that it has a rich and modern art district and a few unusual sights off the beaten track. I've never really mentioned where we live before. And I never saw it as very special, I guess it's because we often overlook where we live as it becomes so familiar and ordinary, but now that we are moving I find ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956We landed at 10:30pm.Called a Ubber Driver to pick us up and take us to the AA academy to get our Camry. Brad Meeder had left the keys in his folder, and Loyal had gotten the keys from the folder and had re parked it outside and across from the Smith Museum. We had a good experience of the Ubber. It only cost us 12.00 to get to our Camry. While driving home, we stopped at Jack in the Box for 2 tacos.Once we got to 9511, we unloaded the suitcases and then tried to "wind down" a little. We didn't turn the light out until 2am.Sunday morning, Dad woke us up at 8:15. We needed to be at NBC for the 9am service - World Passion Week. And believe it or not - we made it! ... read more

Geo: 32.865, -96.7914Today, we leave on AA from DFW to Chicago and then we will switch to the Hong Kong national airlines of Cathay Pacific.  The second flight is a 16 hour flight from Chicago, Illinois to Hong Kong, China.AA Captain and friend, Brad Meeder, took us to the airport as we dropped off the Camry for him to use while he does "sim" training at the American Airlines Academy.  He has been very helpful to us over the years and we count it an honor to have him use our Camry.  When he does fly back to Chicago, he leaves the keys in his folder and then either him or Loyal can get the keys.  Its a good set up.When we boarded the flight in Dallas, sitting in the back of the plane, we talked ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956We only spent 1 full day in Shreveport then returned later that day. While Aunt Hattie was here, we celebrated the 2016 Election. Dad had Fox News on all day. And then in the evening, we were watching the returns. Everyone decided to go to bed around 9:30pm.Then at 10:00pm, I got up and watched the NEWS until 1:30am when Clinton's Press Secretary came out and told all those that were at the "party for Hillary" to go home and get some rest. So, I decided to take their advice and go to bed too. It was at that time, clear that Trump was going to pull off the Unbelievable Feat and beat Hillary Clinton. On Wednesday, we drove around, plus then Dad and I went to NBC for Wednesday evening meal, and returned home.Thursday, I ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956On Friday morning, David did not go to school. Ellen wanted him to be able to spend more time with his "Grammie". I fixed b'fast for the kids. I made instant oatmeal and then Lucy, Emily and David were still hungry, so I poured some cold milk and cereal for them to have.Ellen wanted to take the kids to the library to participate in the 10:30 story time for the 2 oldest. However, before we could get to the library, we needed to look for the Library books and video to return. Evidently, there was one CD that they hadn't been able to find. All the kids (with a few distractions), focused on trying to find the "Lost" CD. In the mean time, Ellen was able to "straighten up" the rooms as she was ... read more

Geo: 32.778, -96.7956On Monday morning, Glenn and I left 9511 at 4:45am and drove directly to DFW airport. Because we got there early, we went ahead and checked in for our flight.Glenn and I are on 2 separate flights. He leaves at 9am, and I leave at 10:45am.After checking our 1 piece of luggage, we then drove to Judi's house. We met Judi on the NCL South American cruise in December and we also purchased our RAV 4 from her in April. Before arriving at her house, we stopped at the Holiday Inn Express to use the rest room.Judi was ready when we got there, and she drove us in her vehicle after Glenn parked our RAV 4 in her drive-way. Glenn gave her a set of keys.Once we checked into the security line at the airport, ... read more
