Sand Blasted The weather report called for rain with strong winds but not until 8 am, so I was hoping for a good sunrise. The old saying "red sky in the morning" was true today. Pictures The wind picked up by 10 and brought the rain with it. The forecast was for rain all day so I had planned to spend the day inside doing projects but Mother Nature had other plans. The sun came out after just an hour so I had to go out and see the ocean. Oscar reluctantly came with me and when we got to the top of the dune he put his feet out and that was that. He wasn't going another step. The wind was blowing the ocean into a turmoil and the sand was blowing like drifting snow. ... read more

02-23-16 Blythe Is., GA to Edisto Beach, SC Blythe Island was beautiful with the campground in a forest of palm trees, pines and stately live oaks. I met my friend John and his friend Tom and we went to the beach on Sunday to enjoy the sun. It was a little cloudy when we got there but eventually the sun came out and warmed us nicely. Oscar was welcome on the beach so he enjoyed all the smells, dug some holes and barked at some of the other dogs. We had lunch that we brought and watched the people walking along on the miles of sand, the tide was low exposing lots of walking room. We made it back in time to have a little nap before it was time for the campfire and of course ... read more

I spent last week at Edisto Island, South Carolina. I own a timeshare that has seen embarrassingly little use during the years that I’ve owned it and I decided it was high time that I got better value from my investment. So I chose a place I’d never been before, coastal South Carolina, to spend a week exploring, sightseeing and learning. From the balcony of my condo I had a gorgeous panoramic view of the golf course, swimming pool and a nearby pond. Immediately outside the balcony was a spectacular, ancient shade tree, pruned and molded to fill the space between the buildings. It had gnarly bark and from one basic trunk, it wound and twisted it’s way up to higher than the three stories of the adjacent buildings. As I sat on the balcony enjoying ... read more

On the evening of Aug 31 we came south to Edisto Island to wait out the Hurricanes. Wilson is keeping watch as we travel. Wilson was given to us by my co-workers at Eaton. He was a little upset because we made him watch the boat while we took our trip around the US. He seems OK now as long as we do not mention the trip. We left Charleston after dark on the evening of August, 31st. We went outside and the ocean was smooth and winds were light so we had to motor most of the way. It took us about 11 hours so when we arrived and tied in the morning we went below and took a nap. Linda and David friends of Carol’s from Edisto called and said they had a dock ... read more

So it's been quite a while since I last updated this blog! I have more free time now, since when I leave work I don't go home to homework (oh, it is truly amazing), and so here I am, updating the good ol' travel blog. A few weeks ago I went to South Carolina with my boyfriend, Shawn, and a few friends. We drove there. Twenty-five hours straight. Couldn't tell you how we did it. We broke up the drive on the way back and that was much more fun. Anyway, we stayed on Edisto Island, which is about 45 minutes south of Charleston. It's a lovely little place with 15 churches! (There's a church on every corner in the south, it would seem.) We spent time on the beach, made pina coladas and pizza, hung ... read more

I can hardly believe that I have been home an entire year! The way I know this is only because we go the beach every year. It is the highlight of my year; it’s better than Christmas. This year we went to Edisto Island. We stayed further down the island on the sound. It was different. More wildlife then I remember. There were no waves, which was kind of weird. We stayed in a funny house where the kitchen and den were on the top floor. We shared a duplex with Ball Family on the other side. We brought our boat out for its maiden voyage on the open seas. I enjoyed the relative calm of the sound but got ridiculously seasick at the smallest waves. I think Grant wanted to sock me. I also fell ... read more
