Obfuscator writes: Shenandoah National Park remained as wonderful in the morning. The snow that had fallen was really just a light dusting, so pretty much all of our gear remained nicely dry. The campsite had treated us well through the night, aside from being far, far, too cold, but had little to see by the time we were up. We packed our gear and started the long drive out of the park. As I discussed in the previous entry, the park is long and runs along a ridge. Our campground was about ¾ of the way up the park. Since we intended to head south anyway, and didn't have anywhere else we urgently wanted to see, we took the Skyline drive through the length of the park that wasn't to our north. The Skyline Drive is ... read more

Firstly - Weird sh*t about America Kent and I have been amused or just plain puzzled by some differences we’ve come across in the states. Here are some examples: 1. Laws There seems to be laws about having covers over drinking straws (probably a good idea espec at truck stops!), but in Texas and Arkansas you don’t need to wear helmets on motorbikes. So beware any bugs on straws but you can ride at 70mile an hour on an interstate no worries - what the?? This leads onto two extra subjects….straws and road kill, he, he. It seems that the classier the joint you’re in the thinner the straws in drinks and the fatter the straw the more guzzling they expect you to do - especially in sports bars!! Road kill cracked us up yesterday (sorry ... read more

Well, here we are -- in the Holiday Inn Express in Salma, NC. April is working and I just finished work so we should be getting ready to finish our journey to Orlando any time now. We are about an hour away from South Carolina, which is about 3 hours long and in Georgia for about an hour and a half-- so we should get to Florida later afternoon/early evening. We check into the Portofino tonight in Orlando (another Loews hotel). YAAAY, I can't get those beds out of my mind. SO SO comfortable!!!!!!!!! :) Yesterday was a good day! After we checked out of the Loews Annapolis hotel we went for lunch at "Buddy's Crabs" -- um, err..I think that's what it was called? LOL! It was a cute, shanty shack type restaurant overlooking the ... read more

I'd like to think that I'll get this journal uploaded onto my blog before I hit the road tomorrow, but I just don't know if that's going to happen. I feel exhausted, and the week isn't even half over yet. Last night I checked into a motel in Clinton, NC with walls that probably met code 50 years ago, but I could hear every single one of my neighbor's tuberculoid coughing attacks throughout the night. Since he couldn't sleep, I gguess he figured that he'd watch TV while he was at it. After an 85 mile day in the cold, rain and dark, I really didn't have much patience, and I didn't get much sleep. At around 5 AM my neighbor's co-worker arrived to discuss his illness & absence from work with him, after what had ... read more
