My name is Desiree Sousa and I am a travelholic. I LOVE everything to do with travel. It is my deepest passion, along with running my internet based business, Out & About Travel, which I have been doing since 1999. It is also a perfect match with my other two passions - playing guitar and photography.
I live in Rhode Island with the love of my life, Melanie Shapiro.
Melanie is "new" to travel but so far, in the time we've been together, we have traveled much of the US together including Florida, Nevada, Utah and Colorado. We have also been to Quebec City. We have taken road trips together, flown together, been stuck in a blizzard together - pretty much everything. Mel is as crazy and adventurous as I am - so we do have a good time.
My favorite thing to do is take a ROAD TRIP! To me there is nothing more exciting and fun. Blast the music, take pictures, meet the locals, eat at funky restaurants and appreciate the pure freedom of it all.
I look forward to the adventures that lay ahead!
Happy Travels!
-Desiree

... read moreHey everyone! Thanks for all your messages and comments. I truly appreciate it. Melanie and I had a relaxing summer after our big spring road trip. We really didn't travel anywhere. I did visit Pennsylvania Dutch/Lancaster and Atlantic City with my mother back in August. Mel and I also had a nice weekend in New Hampshire and Ogunquit, Maine this fall and also went to Salem, MA for the Halloween festivities. Even though we didn't travel much we had a great summer full of BBQ's, day trips, a Jimmy Buffett concert (Mel's first) and enjoying each others company. Our next big trip is to Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada over Thanksgiving break (Nov 28-Dec 1). I can hardly wait! I haven't been up there in over 4 years! It will be Melanie's first time. After that??
... read moreHowdy! Today is a sad day because Melanie and I have to leave Texas. We could easily spend another 3 weeks in this one state and never get bored. Fort Worth and the surrounding area certainly impressed us and we can't wait to come back. Yesterday (Wed May 28), Mel and I decided to take the 35 minute drive to Dallas. Now listen, I don't know what the heck is wrong with us but for some reason we seem to get lost in cities. There were several districts we wanted to visit in Dallas including The West End, Arts District, GLBT section and Uptown. We literally outskirted all of them...lol. We do always manage to find the slum area though. Yup. We both blame it on those crazy, cartoon-like maps that you NEVER can tell what

... read moreOkay so lets get down to the boots and buckles. Melanie was accosted today by a slimy, mid 60's, died jet-black hair, 1970's-styled, cigarette pack in shirt pocket, vintage caddy driving, motel loving, Hunter Thomas reading bastard. Before I go on about how much we loved Fort Worth, I have to get this off my chest. Suuuuure, Melanie was in a flimsy gray tank-top because the temp was going to be 95 today and carrying my root-beer bottle that looked like "ready for a good time" brew, but still - this guy was slimy! Mel and I were finishing our stroll down Exchange Ave in the Historic Stockyards section of Fort Worth, just about to cross the street toward the internationally known (thanks to the TV show Dallas) Cattlemen's Steakhouse, when all of a sudden this

... read moreWell, spit on my spurs and shine them up boys, we're in Fort Woth, Texas! Yee-Ha! Wrap me in a Texas flag and burn it, um, I mean - get'on little doggies! We are in the land of the bush. Land of beef. Blondes and 10 gallon hats. Oil. Did I mention beef? Things are definitely bigger, and dear I say, better in Texas. I know I am being really politically incorrect, I sincerely do that to gain a giggle or two, but Mel and I really do like Texas. Last time I wrote we were in Orlando heading to Taverna Opa at Pointe! Orlando. Once we arrived Mel got a bit peeved when she saw the belly dancer ladies doing their thing so we decided to eat at B.B. Kings's Blues Club & Restaurant. What

I am still not over the fact that I almost got into my first official "brawl" with a crazy black woman in a huge ass caddy, but alas, it is time to move on. Melanie and I meandered down I-95 toward Savannah, GA. Melanie had never been and from what I remember there were lots of beautiful, stately homes, moss-lined streets, beautiful flowers, good food and oh my God, the pralines. We didn't have much time in Savannah so we chose to go to River Street. This is a popular street lined with restaurants (many seafood), shops (many touristy) and bars - lots of bars - woah. Across the street are several steamboats that

So far Melanie and I have encountered gas for $4.35 a gallon, stuck-up people that would make Martha Stewart squirm, traffic that I am sure sent a good 1/2 million people to therapy - or jail, rest stops that I know are the REAL cause for mad cow disease, a condom kingdom, a psycho killer's lair, Philly cheese steak sandwich made with cheese wiz (gee wiz), murals that will give me nightmares for at lease 18 1/2 weeks, a Wendy's emergency pee stop, fried rice pushcarts and our Nation's Capital, Washington, DC. But wait, I am not done! Melanie and I had a "tift" near, where else? The Pentagon. We saw lots of memorials (sorry, I don't quite remember but I remember the names
... read moreHow can a trip that started out so great end so crazy? I refuse to use the word BAD because Mel and I do seem to find the humor in most stuff and work through any rough patches. See, Mel & I are actually a lot alike in the sense that we are both sensitive, worry excessively and fight like Italian cocks (listen, I can't stop saying that word - blame Key West). However, I beat Mel because I also have an anxiety disorder added to the mix and I am a crazed Gemini. Mel is more logical and fact based and most times calming. Where do I begin? Sunday started out with me feeling (que the soap opera dramatic music) - SICK!!! :( For the love of grilled chicken and Cuban fly pie. I couldn't
