Dear Valued Guests and Travel Professionals, As you may be aware, on December 11th we experienced a tragic incident aboard Insignia while docked in St. Lucia. We currently have a technical team on board the vessel working with the ship’s officers and authorities to assess the situation. Once the authorities have completed their work, we expect Insignia to enter dry dock and undergo necessary repairs. We are in the process of evaluating how long those repairs will take to complete and whether there will be any effect to scheduled January sailings, including the start of the Around the World cruise. We will have a better assessment on when the vessel will re-enter service by the middle of next week. We expect to have an update for you at that time. Sincerely, Crane Gladding Senior Vice President, ... read more

We got as rural as it gets in nearby Montgomery County cruising the countryside that has become home for many Amish people. Then, we got about as urban as it gets at the Albany Symphony Vanguard Showhouse; this year a set of condos in the heart of New York’s capital city. First the road trip with my sister and other relatives which took us to Fultonville in upstate New York's Town of Glenn in Montgomery County. It's about an hour's drive, westward from Ballston Lake. It's beautiful and rural. The day wasn't picture perfect; but I can just imagine the vistas on a clear day. We did see wildflowers, white and red trillium (commonly named "wake robin") in profusion and many Amish farms, distinct for their outdoor water pumps and that no wires lead to the ... read more

We always enjoy a culinary experience at the Casola Dining Room of Schenectady County Community College. Following the school calendar, an internationally themed, gourmet menu is served each week days. The dining room is open for lunch $16 and dinner $22. Bring your own bottle of wine for a corkage fee of $3. Reservations sell out quickly; they are taken from 10am 2 weeks prior to the desired date by calling 381-1391. Monday was German night and we joined with two other couples to savor this hearty cuisine. SCCC has one of the top culinary departments in the east. For our meal, it was students who checked our coats, showed us to our table, opened the wine (we provided it and a small corkage fee was charged), took our orders, prepped and cooked the food, served ... read more

As promised we are now going back to try to fill you in on activities that happened over the last couple of months. We found that one thing is for sure - moving out of a house and downsizing to a boat isn’t as easy as just moving to another house (not to say that is easy either!) We find that this was probably the most stressful thing we have ever done. Making a determination for every single item in your house of what to keep, store or get rid of wasn’t easy. We also found that as we had been setting aside items in to our “boat” pile over quite a few months we never really saw it all together until the end. Found out that even that was too much so had to cut ... read more

Sometimes we treat being "home" like it is a fun travel adventure. We just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary "at home." The actual day started out with a great breakfast close to home in Vermont with Beth and Chris and the boys. Once back in Ballston Lake, we headed for a matinee at Bow Tie Cinema, a "non-mall" cinema in Downtown Schenectady with great seats and nice amenities. One of the great things about being "home" is spontaneously running into people we know. We loved the film, "It's Complicated," where we found ourselves seated next to old friends. The movie was "light fluff stuff" that makes you laugh out loud and cry a little. After the movie, we dodged rain drops on State St. and plopped down at the bar of Aperitivo, one of our good ... read more

Our blog followers (we have had over 23000 hits - thank you all very much) know that as much as we get around; we LOVE where we live and work here in Upstate NY. We are more or less Schenectady and Saratoga County based. We'll be off in the motor home soon; so are reminiscing about our great home base. Once the Saratoga Race Course starts to wind down its summer meet; festivals abound in the Capital Region. Scottish Games in Altamont; Little Italy Festival on Jay St., Schenectady, Greek Festival, Carrot Festival, Stockade Art Show, and Stockade Walk-About House Tour (all in Schenectady). There's no place like home. We love where we live here in upstate New York. Here are a few of the things we have done, here at home, over the past year. Nothing was over 150 miles from home. Starting back in the winter, we loved attending PBS's "Celtic Women" concert at Proctor's Schenectady (with 10 of our closest relatives) who are all a BIG part of the reason why we like it HERE! We're already signed up for The Nutcracker with a gaggle of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and the Broadway tour of Wicked in December, both at Proctor's. I'm going through my calendar ... We went to several parties at Glen Sanders Mansion, Scotia (the large party place to be in Schenectady County) and also enjoyed the grand opening of the lovely new Tuscan ... read more
