What a great winter it has been, but man am I looking forward to Spring! Happily, we have been able to enjoy our back room this winter:) Good thing too, I don't know where we would be roaming around these days without the extra room. You two are a fairly active little pair. For a while we thought maybe Charlie wouldn't be as adventurous given your sweet demeanor, but that is not the case. I picked you guys up from the babysitting 'playroom' the other day and Joann said 'He's really a climber!'. Great. We had some nice time playing in the snow and a couple of shoveling days that turned into impromptu snowball fights. Because when you get some good packing snow, what else are you supposed to do with it? Happily Daddy and Mommy ... read more

Well, it's been a while since I've written, but truth be told, it has just been a busy point for us lately. Finishing touches and finishing up the renovations. A testament to that is the fact that tonight I should be working on things like curtains and cushions. Plus we installed some lights. When you get to curtains and cushions you are in the tail end of any major home renovation project:) First off, let me apologize for today's picture of Charlie (the second last shot). And say frankly, that you can just never totally babyproof. They will find something to injure themselves on. He was walking today and being relatively new to it, not every journey goes as planned. This one ended in an epic battle with a chair leg. The chair leg was the ... read more

Well my sweet girl, you have begun your apprenticeship as my little chef in training. Yesterday you helped me make muffins. We did a great job stirring together all of the dry ingredients, however when it came to the wet ingredients you were slightly less helpful. Let's just say that some of your kitchen practices aren't going to get you on a cooking show, or perhaps more correctly, not in any functioning commercial kitchens or restaurants. First your task was to put the prunes that I was slicing up in the mixture. And to be honest you did that, with most of them, the rest you ate. Then we started a new bowl for the wet ingredients. First we put in the applesauce. I gave you a spoon to stir with as we added more things ... read more

September 7th started off very early for me, I headed of out the infamous T5 bright and early. Jetblue’s JFK terminal is a land of happiness and joy for many travelers with the start of Jetblue’s 2nd All You Can Jet pass promotion. I’ve finally calculated all my travels and I will be flying over 21,300 miles this month, can we say exciting! Before 8:00am I was already in Buffalo, NY and en route to Niagara Falls the first time. With about seven hours to see as much of Buffalo as I can with not much more than a bus pass ($4) and my camera I set off. I couldn’t walk across the Rainbow Bridge to the Canadian side, which I hear offers a more scenic view, because I am currently without my lost passport. While ... read more

That zooming sound you hear is either Lena and Charlie flying by in the wagon or summer moving so fast my head is spinning. We had a three week period of crazy travel beginning with Long Beach or "The Hut". Lena, you were there last year but did not enjoy it NEARLY as much as this year. We had a hard time dragging you in off of the sand most nights. Thankfully we have a 'new' sandbox courtesy of Uncle John and Aunt Patty and the cousins Black. So some of the wonderful beach has come home with us. We took off the next weekend for the Adirondacks for the 4th of July. One of your tricks during the Hut was to completely forgo napping. Another was the newly discovered trick of climbing out of every ... read more

After Niagara, we make a stop in Buffalo and as per strict instructions from my brother, Andy (whom I can still call Bubba, because I am the baby sister!). He and his lovely gal McIver know every perfect restaurant in every town...anywhere! We have to stop at the Anchor Bar for the founders of the original Buffalo Wings. Now as we leave Canada, and while the dutiful border patrol question Brando seriously about the contents of our car, on my side of the car approaches more border patrol cops. Only mine are much easier to talk with, because they are clearly looking at what a cool car the Packard is. They also gave me the directions to the Anchor Bar! The wings are outstanding, and the Beef on Weck (that is a type of roll with ... read more

What an exciting summer so far, and it is only going to get busier! We started it still in the excitement of a Sabres playoff run only to have that end too early for our taste around the time of your half birthday Lena. We celebrated your birthday with pizza and cupcakes, YUM! The beautiful and often warmer than expected spring had us back outside and strolling everywhere. We had a reunion with the playground, the park, the zoo. Life is good. Charlie you have been using the excersaucer and mastering all of its bells and whistles like a champ. You started eating rice cereal and lately have been falling asleep eating that instead of nursing. Strange, but honestly, any port in a storm. About a week after starting baby rice cereal, I was in the ... read more

BUFFALO / NIAGARA FALLS / ROCHESTER I had missed my 30th high school reunion due to my flight to Buffalo being cancelled as hurricane Rita approached the Houston area. So when the school’s 50th Jubilee came up this year to coincide with my 35th reunion I couldn’t pass it up. I had wanted to go to a reunion for years. I hadn’t kept up with anyone from high school since I moved from Buffalo to Houston 29 years ago. This would also be an opportunity for Dawn to meet friends and family of mine that she had never met. Also, she had never been to Niagara Falls so I booked a hotel there to turn the trip into a vacation as well. She had a free flight coming to her on Southwest so that determined which ... read more

Well, unfortunately, I am pretty sure that you currently think they grow in plastic eggs Lena. Sorry about that. Maybe we'll pick some in Nana's garden this summer and correct that notion. For Easter you found eggs hidden in the back room and they were each filled with a strawberry. Later when you found the container that the eggs live in the rest of the year they had to each be rechecked for strawberries:) It has been a while since I have written you, but we have been busy as ever. Between trying to get the work on the house that we are doing ourselves finished and all of the other adventures that make life worth it, we've just been busy.
