Moon, when Pigs Fly It was another glorious morning with the sound of the creek drowning out all others. I just had a leisurly morning, having coffee in my lounge chair while watching the creek pound by. I talked to some of my neighbors about where they have been, what they have done and where they are from. Everybody has a story. It was about 11:30 by the time I was ready to investigate Red Lodge so Oscar got to stay home and I went exploring again. There is a ski area here so I had to check that out for Jeremy and the area wildlife. It was another hour before I made it into town, found a parking place and decided where I wanted to go. It was really busy with bikers and tourists, shopping, ... read more

07-30-15 To the Top of the World The creek really put me to sleep and I didn't wake up til 8 am. By then the sun was up, half of the campground left and I'm still in bed, hooray. While walking Oscar I met a couple from Billings that bought a 1985 class C motor home for $1,900.00, put $3,000.00 into it and have a fine new way to get away. They used to tent camp but enough rocks in the back will diminish ones desire to camp at all. But now they are living in luxury. Also met a couple from Minnesota camping in a tent along the creek, they have a motorcycle and trailer. Just loving the experience, they're young. After coffee watching the creek I decided to pack the car and go through ... read more

It was a glorious morning, bright sun, a gentle breeze and a cobalt sky. I was planning to head out this morning so I allowed myself about 45 min to have coffee and watch the Today show as I am really ignorant about the news. Nothing new in the news front so after coffee I started my morning chores to depart. All was done by 9:30 am, I filled up the propane tank and by 10 we were on the road. I drove 200 miles east, much to my dismay, but I wanted to see Red Lodge and drive the Bear Tooth Pass again and see if it still looks the same. Of course, I don't remember so it will be a new experience. I'm staying in a central spot so I can do the pass ... read more

6/2 Arrived Red Lodge, MT after a grueling road trip through Yellowstone, a missed turn, out of route through Cody, WY and finally bad directions from GPS. 6/3 Explored the city Red Lodge and searched out Richel Lodge which is no longer standing. Richel Lodge was a vacation destination for the Hauglie's out of Minot, ND back in the day but since burned down. 6/4 Enjoyed a fun 4th in a very western town with an old fashion parade. Later visted the local golf course for 18 holes. Have done a lot of hiking, laundry and house keeping getting ready for Great Falls, MT next. 6/5 Thanks to visitor center for their wifi. Still no shower for last 4 days so handi wipes are definetly handy. No need for the wine cooler today, temp in low ... read more

We are in my favorite place in the world----Montana! A few days ago we left Jackson, WY and went to Teton Village and rode the tram to the very tippy top---it makes the tram in Squaw Valley seem like nothing---three times as high and far more spectacular of a view. We did the bungee jump there too and drove back into Yellowstone. We crossed the Continental Divide many times and got ice cream at Old "Faith" ful. We watched it erupt which was kinda cool and then we saw lots of moose and critters in Yellowstone and tons of geysers. We checked into Mammoth Hot Springs and then went to a local hot springs on the WY/MT border called Boiling River. The next day we rode horses through the areas around Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone. ... read more

Woke up to rain. Decided to pick up some groceries. Things are cheaper here than at home. Beauty supplies like shampoo and face creams at Wal-Mart are half of what we pay at home. I stock up! We are passing through another little town in Montana called Joliet. Whoa! Stop! Go back! Charles Ringer Studio and Gallery has metal sculptures like I've never seen before. Gas pump hobos with their wine bottle, warming their hand at the burning barrel. How funny is that! Going through the Beartooth pass, we get as high as 12,000 feet. Lots of switchbacks up the mountain, and narrow roads. At the peak, we see the pointy peak off in the distance that the pass is named for. Once we get through the pass and check into our motel, we have enough ... read more

Warning: Long blog ahead. What can I say, I had some time to blog into a word entry and copy/paste. Below is a typical camping day. Last night (08/26/07) was a hotel night. "The Pollard" in Red Lodge, MT. Very nice. We had a queen bed (nice), running water (though Jim took a tepid bath cause he was impatient and wouldn't wait for the water to get hot). Breakfast included (full hot breakfast). Last night we had bison spring rolls, a lovely salad (Jim had chowder) and we had our first real dessert on the trip (vanilla creme brulee that was very tasty). And we have wi-fi (in the lobby anyway). So, being on the trail ain't so bad. Whoohoo. John arrives in 2 days. The 25 mile/day hiking can begin. Lets go through a typical ... read more

. Rain, rain go away and come again another day… It seems that we are definitely paying for all the good weather we have enjoyed so far along the way… It was clear just long enough this morning for us to shower, eat breakfast and then pack the truck… However, the tap opened not long after we started out and stayed open to various degrees throughout the whole day! We had a few errands to run before leaving Great Falls, including finally deciding to replace the battery, so we didn’t get going ‘till nearly noon… img= http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/... read more
