Hello and welcome to Emily's travel blog for stories and pictures of Sweden and other European adventures! I fly out in one week from Minneapolis. Next Monday at 7pm, I will fly 6 hours to Reykjavik, Iceland with Eric and Amy (fellow students from Duluth). We have to wait an hour and a half to board for Copenhagen. That flight will take 3- 1/2 hours. From Copenhagen, we will take a train to Vaxjo, Sweden, arriving around 5pm. So I think that's about 15 hours of travelling which I am nervous and excited for. I've actually never flown internationally, but I have had a good track record with air and train travel in the states. I don't really know where I will be living, going to class, or buying groceries until I get there, but the ... read more

Well we've go four days to get everything together in preparation of our 18 day trip to Malta and Italy. We are flying out at 9 pm on Thursday evening, and the list of to-do's requires a lot more time than four days. Since my skills are focused on numbers vs writing, you won't be getting any indepth philosophical entries in the blog during our trip. Rather I am hoping to use this website to stay in contact with friends and family during our travels. We can't wait for our trip to begin, I am especially excited to see Lyndsay pack 2.5 weeks of stuff into one carry-on backpack! Here is a quick overview of our trip: 4/17/08: Leave St Paul, fly to Amsterdam 4/18/08: After a quick one hour layover in Amsterdam, we head to ... read more

Branches: This name may be confusing to some and make perfect sense to others. To get everyone on the same page, I will explain: my brother Chris "BFG" Fasoli goes by "Sticks," and appropriately, I go by "Branches." We leave a week from tomorrow and are hitting "crunch time" in terms of packing and saying goodbyes to family and friends. It is a strange - but very nice - experience to have so many parties thrown in your honor. Most everyone tells us that they are envious of our plans ("I wish we had the guts to do what you guys are doing") and several are indicating that they want to come visit. Of course, we took the boys on a daylong visit to the Minnesota State Fair for games, rides, eating, and looking at all the animals and such. They wanted to know if Costa Rica has something similar - I have a feeling that the local festivals will seem puny and quaint by comparison. But then again, that is part of the ... read more

A little less than two weeks until I leave for Prague, and there are still many things I don’t know yet. For instance, what is the Czech language like? In my head it’s a mix of Russian and German, with plenty of aggressive consonants mixed in for good measure. Where will I be living? For some reason, my program refuses to tell me that before I arrive, which makes me wonder if they think I wouldn’t come if I found out in advance. I also know very little about Czech history, culture, geography, etc., but I hope to pick up some of that along the way. If you’re curious about the Czech Republic, and more specifically Prague, feel free to ask me anything, because every answer I give will be the same. Go Wikipedia it. That’s ... read more
