Hi, It´s now 5 PM local time in Antigua, Guatemala. I've been here for two full days. but before I describe my trip and tell you about Antigua, here are some photos of my last days in Boston. My trip to Antigua was eventful, as I almost missed the connection in Miami because my flight from Boston took off late due to ice on the wings. Luckily, however, the Miami flight had arrived late from Jamaica, so I made the next flight to Guatemala City. Then upon arrival in Guatemala City (more than 3 hours late) I discovered that American Airlines had lost my suitcase! By this time, I was coming down with a bad head cold and had fever and chills. Fortunately, even though it was close to 11:30 PM, the driver who was taking ... read more

Here are some photos of my stay in Boston which will tell you what I've been up to in the last few days. What you won't see is the theater performance Pam and I are going to see tonight: It's called "Bread and Puppet" and is done by seven puppeteers from Vermont who'll be accompanied by a local Boston brass band. And yesterday afternoon I saw a movie: "In Bruges", a rather violent thriller but with excellent acting and beautiful shots of the Belgian city. I also had a lovely dinner the other night in Brookline with my friend Mia, whom I met in Maine last summer, and today it's lunch with my dear friend Maura. As you can tell, I'm very lucky to have some great friends here, and I love Boston. It's a university ... read more

Geo: 42.3586, -71.0567So, slight detour/delay in my trip. My Grandmother fell and broke her leg over the holidays; she's been healing well, but slowly and is graduating from Physical Rehab Thursday. She couldn't manage the stairs at the old house, so my grandparents will be moving into a new condo with an elevator on Wednesday. Needless to say it'll be a pretty busy week for them with the move, and getting Mimi reacquainted back into normal life after three months in recovery. So, I'm going back east for a week to stay with them, help unpack, and help in general with the million of little things that'll inevitably need doing in getting settled.I'll just delay my departure for my trip by a week or so, and as a side bonus, I'll get my Visa application/passport into ... read more

Friday 11th January: Had a half day today but Kev had to go off and do some paperwork, so it took me 100 minutes to get home by public transport in the rain and had a message from Ryan when I got home. But I was in a foul mood and just ate junk food and watched Liza Minelli (in New York, New York) trying hilariously to out act De Niro. Amazing! Ate pizza with Laura when she got in from work and chilled on the couch in front of House. God, Hugh Laurie is quality! On Saturday I walked Reilly around the pond and watched the kids for a couple of hours until Laura’s friend Regina arrived from Ireland for a few days of extreme shopping. I made a curry for seven (me, Laura, Reg, ... read more

Dear Friends, Just 17 more days before we leave for China on January 30! Seven wonderful students, another teacher and I will be part of a 25 year old exchange between the Newton Public Schools and the Jingshan School in Beijing. We had a "Lucky Pot" party/meeting last night with all the visiting Chinese and their American host families, our China Bound group and their parents. Lots of excitement! I'm attaching a photo of our group, myself in my library, and another one with my family. I'm pretty busy getting ready to go so I probably won't create another entry until I arrive in China, but return to this space in February if you want to follow my adventures. Cheers! As it has been a MONTH since I could last be bothered (I will not lie, it wasn't a case of not having any time) to write a post, I do believe its well time that I write another one, and update you all on my adventures. Where I last left off, I was on my way to the grand town of Norman, Oklahoma to visit Jay, one of my really good friends from exchange in Germany. They had just suffered from some massive ice storms when I got there, and some people, such as Jay's parents, still didn't have electricity after a WEEK. Luckily Jay's place had some, or there may have not been Oklahoma for me, as I am still in shock that these people lived for a week in sub freezing temperatures without ... read more

Wednesday 2nd Jan - Well happy new year and welcome to blog two of 2008. Hope you all had a good one. I stayed in for the first time in probably 12 or so years, but it was enjoyable all the same. As U2 say, nothing changes on New Year’s Day. Well except the date and the year, but we’ll forgive them that small error. Today I got a lift with laura to her work in Sheila’s car, whose TomTom has John Cleese’ voice - scary! - as I needed to return some thermal bottoms and an adidas (oops, it was a Laura xmas prezzie!) Top at Marshall’s which believe it or not is more of a bargain than TK Maxx. Have to go back in there sometime - king of the bargain hunters that I ... read more

Thurs 27th Dec: Had a great day today. Started off a busy schedule with a drink (oops!) By getting a free hour tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery. It used to be a Kochs brewery using German ingredients, and was changed to Samuel Adams in 1984, when the owner decided to rename it after Patriot and former brewer Sam Adams. The tour was very interesting - found out that hops is part of the marijuana family and when you crush it up it sure smells the same - maybe that explains the process of beer turning bad with time/exposure to light as skunking! The best part was the tasting (naturally) at the end where we held it up to the light to see if we could see our fingers through it, then smelt it for aroma, ... read more

Geo: 42.3586, -71.0567Hey so the movers came on Wednesday (Dec 26) and took away everything in apartment. It's all packed and in storage, awaiting my arrival date in San Francisco for shipping. The cats are safely settling in at Mom's house, and I embark for the first stop on my trip (San Francisco) on Sunday. I'll be in Boston for Christmas with the family this weekend. And one last good home cooked meal at Uncle Bob's before I head off to who knows what the hell I'll be eating =). Merry Christmas everyone!... read more
