Plymouth is on the agenda for today. Brooke and I went for a ride to check on the graves of my grandparents and family members in St Joseph's Cemetery. It's nice to know the names of your ancestors. I remembered a few names from when I was younger, or I recognized the names of others from family stories. My grandfather died 2 weeks after I was born. I never got to meet him, of which I am sad. My Nonee lived to a ripe old age and she was in my life for over 35 years. Her family lost a few members to the Spanish Flu, in the pandemic of 1918 and they are buried here. We drove next to Plymouth Rock and the waterfront where I have visited since a young child. The Mayflower replica ... read more

Some early morning calls found a place that would look at the trailer that day (as opposed to waiting weeks), but unfortunately we also discovered the trailer is too tall to put on a flatbed truck. The shop sent out a mobile unit and after taking a tire off the mechanic found that it was not the axle but a fabulously destroyed bearing. It was a quick fix and we were on the road by 1PM. Due to the late start we set our sights on Plymouth and headed east. Jessica wasn't too far from the Rhode Island State line and we passed it with out being prepared to take the picture. We turned around and headed back just to get the shot. While in Rhode Island we stopped in Newport to see the Mansions. We ... read more

Yesterday we drove from Bar Harbor Maine to Wells Maine which is in the southeast corner of Maine. It is a very nice town located on the Atlantic ocean. Friends of ours from Florida, Jack and Elaine, live in Wells in the summer. Charlie, Ruth, Jim and I went to dinner with Jack and Elaine. I had scallops and clam chowder - very good. Jim had lobster stew and scallops. Jim that the scallops were the best that he had ever had. It was so good to see our friends and looking forward to seeing them in a few weeks in Florida. We drove from Maine to Plymouth MA. We took a wild ride thru Boston and the tunnel. Lots of traffic. And, it was Saturday. Can't imagine during the week. Beside steep mountains and winding ... read more

The tide is rolling into Cape Cod Bay as we head out of Scituate harbor and it continues rolling us all the way down the coast to Plymouth. We stop at the fuel dock for fifteen gallons of diesel before leaving Scituate. The outer entrance to Plymouth harbor is marked by Plymouth Light, high up on the hill on Gurnet Point. From there, you still have five miles to go before you get to the dock in Plymouth town. First, you head down the main (and only) entrance channel to a little pepper-pot lighthouse whose official and curious name is “Duxbury Pier”. From this point, you can head South to Plymouth or you can turn North into the enormous but very shallow Duxbury Bay. In the past, we have stayed several times in both places. Anchoring ... read more

If you want to go ashore in Plymouth, I highly recommend that you make a reservation at the Brewers Marina. You will have more chance of getting a space if you go there mid-week, rather than on a nice summer week-end. There is a very pleasant restaurant right in the marina and a nice breakfast-place two minutes walk up the street. Once you head into town, there are restaurants and shops of every kind. Your other choices for staying in Plymouth harbor are described in my previous blog. The harbormaster does have some moorings “inside the breakwater” but today he had none there that would take a 34-foot sailboat.... read more

21 July, 2013 On Friday we left Dexter, NY, and drove south then east past the Adirondacks and through the Mohawk Valley and into Massachusetts. We wandered some backroads in western Mass until we found our way to E. Otis, MA. On Saturday we drove around Springfield, MA, then south into Rhode Island and then out again before finally finding Sandy Pond Campground in Plymouth, MA. Only it isn’t. It isn’t in Plymouth, but 20 miles south. We have discovered that Massachusetts roads change names and numbers randomly. And some people who give directions don’t know north from south on a regular basis. By the way, Rhode Island was my 49th state, so whoo-hoo for me. We met some very nice people in the next campsite at Sandy Pond and they gave us very good directions ... read more

For those of you that look for our reports, we're just checking in to tell you that we've taken a turn for the north. Chris' ribs, bruised from a 'trip' on the dock in Atlantic City, are not up to another thumping on the open seas yet and we weren't quite satisfied with the wave height predictions for the crossing to Nova Scotia. It could have been more than 2 feet! LOL So we opted for a final holiday in New England to cap our journey. Today we moved from Buzzard Bay,MA through the Cape Cod Canal and up to Plymouth, MA. This is a beautiful restored town and we're thanking Honey Dew today for the free wifi. We will visit a few of these lovely old ports through Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Hopefully we ... read more

My relocation from Sandwich MA to Plymouth MA on June 19, 2012 held a brand new curve ball. I knew the trip would be one of the shortest campground to campground journeys of my “professional tourist” career, but was dumbfounded when MapQuest calculated the route from Peters Pond RV Resort (Sandwich) to Indianhead Resort (Plymouth) at only 12.39 miles. Scratching my head in bewilderment, MapQuest rescued me from the threshold of a rubber room. To reach downtown Plymouth from Indianhead Resort, I would have to travel an additional 13.94 miles! It literally took longer on each end of the trip to make ready my travel trailer than it did to traverse the route. After set-up, my Pilgrim (the brand of my travel trailer) felt right at home in Plymouth. Wednesday found me venturing back toward the ... read more
