Peter Caldis here, Here we go! I hope this is the first of many entries on our trip! Before we start the trip, I will give an overview of what we have planned so far. We're leaving tomorrow (May 27th) from Newark Airport to Dublin, Ireland. We'll be staying for 3 nights in and around Dublin before taking a ferry into the UK (Wales). From there, we take a rental car and spend 3 days/nights going across the English countryside before ending up in London. On June 5th, we join a tour through Alumni World Travel (through the University of Texas at Austin because we missed Maryland's deadline) that we will stay with for the next 3 weeks. Entry #4: 2 days before the trip Nice Things Recent days have been filled with nice new things for me. A new laptop a month or so ago, a new camera a few days ago, and a new phone this morning. Of course, all will be coming on the trip with me. Actually, all the photos you see here were taken with the new camera. Man I love this thing, the picture quality is excellent. And it takes panoramas! *EDIT, having trouble with the panorama feature on this site, just e-mail me if you want a bigger version. Enjoy the nice view of my back yard. Entry #3: 10 days before the trip Finalizations If you didn't get the pun, it's final exam week here at UMD. Granted I only have 2 exams (2 and a half if you count short papers), but nature decided to bless me with my first cold in 2 years this Monday. Instead of studying, I've been sleeping, downing grapefruit juice, and blowing my nose 24/7. Fantastic. Oh well, first exam was pretty easy and my project grades already guaranteed a B even if I failed it. Finalizations have also begun on the trip, just a few more things to take care of. Entry #2: 26 days before the trip Plane tickets are a nightmare So, this trip has been in planning since sometime in November or December. Naturally, it would have been a good idea to buy plane tickets back then when they would have been far cheaper than they are now. Yeah... that didn't happen. Instead, I waited until last Friday to order them. That's right, AFTER the giant volcano in Iceland erupted and screwed up all the airlines. Genius... With the volcanic ash disrupting everything ticket prices started to soar, so Kevin and I had to act fast. Because we are leaving on different days, buying round trip tickets together became an impossibility. We had to get one way tickets together to Beijing, and then find our own return tickets.
