LL Bean Flagship Store, Freeport
Published: October 11th 2009North America » United States » Maine » MidcoastFreeport, Maine is known mostly for being the home of the famous L.L. Bean Company. Its flagship store is here, open 24 hours a day, and said not to even have locks on the doors. In fact, I confirmned it, no locks on the main doors. The tradition began when predawn hunters could stop by to pick up supplies and equipment on their way out. Personally, I am bringing very little, so I can shop until I drop. It will make up for my few, and I mean FEW, purchases in South America last month. Maine is reputed to be the bargain shopping capital of the Americas. Freeport is on the shores of Casco Bay, a little north of Portland, where we spent last night. It is well known for its outlet shopping, beauty and history. ... read more
Back In Maine I have been back in Maine since February 17th. I don’t know why I haven't written much since coming home, I guess I am just lazy. Things have been going alright. Sandra arrived in Boston on April 8th. It was so great to see her. We were only apart for 7 weeks, but it felt like years. Since she was been here, we have had much fun together. I have showed her the Maine Coast, Maine’s Largest City (Portland), and last weekend we went up to Quebec with my brother Josh and his Fiancé. I thought about Richard a lot while we were there. It would have been nice to have him there, considering about 95% of the people are French Speaking. Anyway, I will try to post more on my blog so ... read more
Dear Family & Friends Coast to Coast, A leg of our journey has been completed. We have arrived at Bar Harbor, ME next to Acadia Nat'l Park. But, we must say that the journey getting here was one of the most beautiful ever taken. From New York, through Vermont, New Hampshire has been a sight these eyes have never seen. I know I've already written about the leaves, but I wish I had more adjectives to adequately describe them: awesome, spectacular, like fireworks in the forest. New Hampshire was enchanting and Mt. Washington was a blaze of color. We moved into Gorham NH. and had fish & chips at a locals' kind of place. We ambled into Maine and found Skowhegan. We stayed at the confluence of the Kennebec & Wesserunsett Rivers. We were right on the ... read more
I must give much thanks to my Uncle Chuck for housing me at his 1885 Andover, MA farmhouse. The rain drizzled down for three days and I was grateful for having a warm dry place to stay. I returned my rental car in the morning after stopping at the post office then rode the bike back to the house in the drizzly rain. I mostly spent my time on the internet catching up with blogs or looking through my uncle’s massive collection of books. He showed me all about the reconstruction work he was doing on the house; refabricating, residing, scraping, and painting. So much work to do and it really shows, a beautiful old house. Thanks so much for the long weekend of rest! I left Andover in the morning of the third day as ... read more
Days to Departure: 1. Amount of stuff I still have to do before I leave: Infinite. Anywho, I'm putting together this site to act as a compilation of my experiences traveling and studying abroad in Belize. This is my last year at the University of Vermont, and amazingly enough, I still have the opportunity to study abroad, despite pending graduation. Perhaps this will provide me some insight as to what comes next, as I've been quite satisfied with life as a student. One can only hope. Right now, I'm sitting around in dismal midcoast Maine, and finding it difficult to prepare for days where it will be 85 and sunny as opposed to the fabulous freezing rain were experiencing at the moment. Here's to catching that 530 am plane... ... read more
