Geo: 33.7481, -84.3909Yesterday and today, we did a lot of research. Yesterday, we visited the Charles Switzer Public Library in Marietta and the Roswell Public Library to look for records on the cemeteries in the area. We didn't find much of interest so didn't visit any of them. While we were driving around, we passed by Strickland Road in Roswell so stopped for a photo. We had a great lunch at Lucky's Burgers and Brew right down the street, too.Today, we drove to Morrow on the south side of Atlanta to go to the Georgia Archives and next door to the Atlanta branch of the National Archives. We spent most of the day at the Georgia Archives finding everything Phil wanted to get there so we didn't need to go to the National Archives. We were ... read more

Geo: 33.7481, -84.3909We drove from Meridian to Atlanta today stopping in Birmingham at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to learn more about what was happening in the South while we were children. We also saw the 16th Street Baptist Church that was bombed in 1963 killing four girls attending Sunday School. The museum is beautifully crafted and does a great job of explaining all the parts of the civil rights struggles of the 20th century. Near the end of the self-guided tour, one of the docents pointed out a photo from March 2007 that she was particularly fond of with then Senator Barack Obama pushing Fred Shuttlesworth in his wheelchair across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma while Bill Clinton stops to talk to him. We arrived in Atlanta before rush hour started but the roads ... read more

Hi Friends and Family, On May 4, 2008 I wrote and circulated my first travel blog. We were about to travel to Europe for a six-week adventure, our longest vacation ever. After returning, I learned that I could use my blogs to create a personal travel book. It worked wonderfully. As we age I find it relaxing to break out the book and flip through the pages rather than to log in here to see what I wrote or to scan through thousands of photos trying to remember where we were when they were taken. My last blog was dated August 6, 2012. It was my 105th entry with a total of 1,251 photos. It was our last day in Paris with a photo of the Eiffel Tower. We have done some travel since but I ... read more

Alarms were set for 7am as we had to get to our first booked tour. We have a cooked breakfast buffet at the Best Western Plus which was pretty reasonable selection and everything was pretty fresh. I had Scrambled Eggs on toast with a sausage shaped like beef patty, blueberry yoghurt, muffin, and a pancake with maple syrup that I made myself in this fancy machine in 1 minute. All you do is put down a plate and press start and here it comes. Not real tasty and then Kerry said the next person’s was twice the size as mine (I guess I just warmed the machine up for them !). Kerry had more sense and had some healthier options. Next we headed off to the CNN Centre via Centennial Park which was built for the ... read more

Up at 3am and ready to head back to LAX for our flight to our next destination Atlanta in Georgia. It has been almost 24 hours since we arrived and I miss flying ! Well we both agreed the beds at 4 Points Sheraton LAX were amazingly comfortable. Shame we only got half a night to sleep there. Will be back here again no doubt as they allow you to check in for 24 hours from your actual arrival (i.e. arrive at 7am and stay until 7am and only pay for 1 night stay). Only 10 minutes to LAX with free hotel shuttle so good for connections. Anyway we got to the Airport and check in was a breeze. In fact with Southwest Airlines you print up your own baggage labels and stick them on yourself ... read more

Day 1 The journey begins Saturday morning, Kirsten and I get up and head to Savannah GA. What… I though you were going to Italy. Yes we are, however momma is in Savannah so Kirsten and I decided to go and visit her for the afternoon and then drive to Atlanta and hop on the plane there. Kirsten and I crashed at my sister’s house in Atlanta and Sunday morning while having breakfast set up buddy passes to leave ATL and fly into FRA (Frankfurt Germany) the flights looked the best into Frankfurt around 12 noon. So from my sister’s house we walked over to the MARTA station and hopped a ride to the airport. The train was full of young and old folks dressed in an odd way. I overheard them talking about they were ... read more

Hello bloggers! Erin and I are officially Thailand bound! We will be visiting this lovely country in March of 2016. We even have a 24 hour layover in Seoul, South Korea! Erin has been researching flights and accommodations and everything has worked out perfectly. We are super excited! If anyone out there is from Thailand or South Korea or has traveled to any of these places, please give us some tips and ideas for our visit. We will be in Bangkok for about 8 days with some traveling in the middle up to Chiang Mai. We would love to know amazing places to visit and experiences to experience first hand. Erin is super interested in taking a cooking class, so tips on where to go for that would be greatly appreciated. We are just overjoyed to ... read more
