We were up before dawn, drinking coffee and listening to the weather forecast. Sara and Trevor called and said “Let’s go for it.” And so we headed out around 7:30, after waiting for the fog to lift. The fishermen were everywhere on the river, and the crab pots were being picked up. As we approached the mouth of the river, we held our breaths, would the Gulf be calm or rough? Hooray, it looked calm and beautiful. We decided instead of going down to marker 24 and following markers across to Steinhatchee, we would just go in a straight line across.
