According to MapQuest, the drive from Heritage Mobile Home & RV Park in Augusta GA to Town and Country RV Resort in Sanford FL via I-16 and I-95 would be 379.09 miles and would take 5 hours and 56 minutes. Of course, that allows no time for “truck fuel” stops, potty breaks or “people fuel” stops and does not account for my “slower-than-the- speed-limit” pace. Generally, I find myself padding the calculated “trailer-in-tow” travel time by about fifty percent which seems to work quite well. I got a 9AM start which should have me in Sanford about 6PM. That’s a long day behind the wheel for this lightweight! My post-5PM arrival on Thursday, December 19, 2013 found my customary site (AND the spot I had called to reserve a few weeks beforehand) occupied. I encountered one ... read more

Hey, I’m still alive and well! The last several months have been hectic in some respects but very relaxing and enjoyable in others. Kay and I arrived in Florida on November 23, 2010 – the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I went to the VA Hospital in Gainesville to effect a change of address to my Aunt Lena’s home in Sanford FL so I could pick up my VA correspondence at her home instead of having it forwarded from Rockford. Here’s a short note for those who know me. I had believed PTSD was all about flashbacks and nightmares but recently learned that insomnia and affiliation difficulties are also symptoms of PTSD. I have been taking a mild sleep aid prescribed by the VA and am feeling much more rested and energetic. I expected my PTSD treatment would ... read more

Long Trip Home Satisfied that we had found our new temporary home we left our Torino hotel at 0630 on Thursday (Giovedì) to catch our flight back home. Not a bad trip except that ALItalia wouldn't check our bags all the way to Orlando (United did the other way) so we had to bag claim in Rome and re check and we almost missed our flight to Washington Dulles because of that. In fact, if Debi wasn't United Global Services they would not have even tried to get us on the flight. We were the last ones to board that flight. That and the flight from Dulles to Orlando was delayed a few of hours and changed gates couple of times. So we got home early in the morning on Friday (Venerdì) and since we ... read more

Wednesday night we noticed it getting pretty buggy, so we closed the screens on the back deck, then the doors to the deck. By the time we went to bed the screens and the windows were covered with bugs, what I call faux-skeeters, but around here they call blind mosquitoes. Thursday morning, they were everywhere. We swept some off the front windows and tapped them off the screens, but they swarmed back. Kerry even went out with the broom while we were crossing Lake George and swept the windows and decks, but they were pretty persistent. Finally, around mid-afternoon, they started flying off, leaving behind what we guess is green bug poop. The river retained its beauty, with an abundance of ospreys and their nests, as well as more alligators. We passed small towns that were ... read more
