Edit Blog Post
Okay, so it's been a little longer than I anticipated to write another blog, but i'm not doing enough things close together enough to justify writing a blog per week. So once every couple of weeks, when things get exciting.
Which this week they did!
Paintballing! It is a well known fact that over the years, the Beck boys have participated in paintball and become quite serious about it- guns, ammo, masks, everything was set to go. So after pulling everything out of the boxes from Australia, it was time to take the australian girls paintballing!
Adam and maeghan had the pleasure of going first, and returned home that night raving about how awesome it was. Then it was up to me and the boy.
About a week later, it was a last minute decision after will's work was cancelled on the sunday, so we gathered everything together, bought some cammo pants and off we went!
We lucked out on this lovely day by getting cooler weather and a BEAUTIFUL breeze. It was hot under the masks, but as soon as we reached the safe zones and pulled them off, the cool air hit our faces and
what sweet relief it was.
Walking into the field was somewhat scary as i'd never experienced the hit of a paintball and, lets face it, i don't have the best aim either. We were split into teams, although i followed will like a scared little puppy. I should also mention that I was the only female- such a male's game apparently.
Soon it was ready to go, the first team to take down the other wins the game, and it all happened in a matter of minutes. I, of course, didn't actually shoot at anyone or get in anyone's line of sight, rather just hung back like a scared little kitten and waited for my team to win the game.
The day went on in a similar fashion, I finally puckered up the courage to shoot at other people, and get shot at- on the elbow, 3 times on the leg, once on my gun and once right smack bang on my chest- being the only female player, it was inevitable.
I actually managed to hit someone during one of our bigger games (more people joined as the day went on) and our last game was half an hour long,
and I finally got the hang of it.
So now I know what it feels like to be hit by a paintball. Not painful at all, and i can't wait to go again. Hopefully next time it will be a cooler, although i'm not complaining :3
Howl-O-Scream! The much-talked-about event was finally coming up for Thursday night- Ange had booked the tickets (only $20 each) and we set off to Busch Gardens to get our spook on! (We, being Sam, Angela, Zach, Will and myself)
Busch Gardens- the best way I can describe it is a Zoo and a Theme park mushed together to make Busch Garden-extravaganza! They are usually open during the day as a tourist attraction, but every year around this time they decorate the entire place for Halloween and open up the rides and spooky haunted houses for Howl-O-Scream =D
When we arrived, we were escorted into the park by a shuttle bus, and I felt like a kid on christmas morning. This was such a novelty for me because in Australia- Halloween barely exists.
We were met with people who worked in the park and actors dressed up in blood carrying
chainsaws, sure they aren't allowed to actually touch you but the fact that they walk right up to you/follow you/intimidate you is enough to make one slightly unnerved.
We snagged a map of the place and made it our goal to visit all the haunted houses and take me on my first REAL rollercoaster ride ever. Sam and Zach bitched out of the roller coaster ride, so it was left to ange, will and me.
The first rollercoaster we got on was called Montu, it was twisty and huge and scary and threw us around the entire time. I had never experienced anything of the sort, ever- the closest thing I could compare it too was the Mad Mouse at Luna Park, which is NOTHING.
The second rollercoaster was called Shiekra, [url=http://http://www.awesomeflorida.com/images/busch-gardens-sheikra-1b.jpg which was the bigger, smoother, better of the two and I was so ready to try it.
This is my experience:
Hop into the seats and yourself in, have staff check the safety of the belts and wait to start moving. Start moving up the slant that didn't LOOK as steep as it actually felt when slowly climbing higher and higher. Slowly move around the top
and think about how lovely the view is, yet keeping in mind the drop that you didn't notice, that you're about to fall off. Slowly approach the edge, grab onto your boyfriend's arm and tell him "i cant do this i cant do this" when you certainly know there is no way but down. Watch him then laugh cheekily about it and say "well there's nothing you can do now!". Laugh to yourself a little at how silly you're being. By this point you've reached the edge. The ride has been specifically designed to pause at the edge, so you dangle helplessly in your seat and feel gravity pulling you back down to earth. Feel the ride edge a little more, watch your feet start to come into view. Feel that adrenaline pumping through your body- the fear, the excitement, the resistance to fall yet the urge to jump. Feel the skipping of your heart and the feeling throughout your body that tells you "you are falling. You might want to get a replacement stomach because yours was left at the top of the ride. Joke's on you." Feel the relief when you've made it out alive, but the fear
and excitement again as you get thrown around a corner and jerked around in your seat. Feel this again throughout the entire ride at every twist, turn and pull.
Then get off the damn ride, almost fall down the stairs and grin all night like a little kid. You feel sick, but it was so fuckin' worth it!"
Then it was onto a few more haunted houses- a puppet one with scary clowns, a haunted rock concert and a house with things creeping out of walls and behind obstacles. Through any of the houses, i held either ange or will's hand to make it seem so much less scary, but the people at busch gardens did so well- it was a frightastic night =D
It's been pretty lazy the rest of the time... OH I BOUGHT A BIKE =D From walmart, for $100. It's a lovely cruiser bike, purple of course with a pretty bell. I love it. There are pictures on facebook =D
Love to home <3
