After around 15 hours of travelling I finally arrived at Bed 'n Drinks hostel in Miami Beach. Despite the long journey I was very impressed with both of my flights with American Airlines - plenty of food and bevs to keep me going! As soon as I touched down in Miami it suddenly dawned on me that I was completely on my own. The hostel offered its own shuttle service for $35 per person from the airport to the hostel. I thought this was ridiculous considering it was only a 20 minute drive! I decided to look into other options and found a bus that went from the airport to south beach that cost $2 (!!) and ran up until 11.30pm. By the time I got my luggage it was about 10pm and it took about ... read more

Geo: 25.7942, -80.129On Sat we Uber'd to our hotel on the strip in South Beach, Miami. Our Peruvian driver said our hotel was very close to a really good Peruvian cafe, and recommended it to us. The food at 'El Chalan on the Beach' was exceptional. The fish ceviche was as good as we've had anywhere and we also had a popular meat dish, Lomo Saltado, that was very tasty. Followed it up with a super sweet Dulce du Leche caramel dessert that we had enjoyed in Sth America. A bit of a food problem as we had arranged an Italian dinner with Ewen and Robyn Thomson that evening, but we managed.Sunday we had a lazy morning and then went to the Port to board Regent Seven Seas' newest ship, the 'Explorer'. Launched in July 2016, ... read more

We landed in Miami yesterday and found the Albion Hotel in South Beach. This hotel is smack in the middle of the art deco section of Miami Beach. We took a tour that drove us through the various districts of Miami with our guide Fabio. While the city is not all that old it has developed into very distinct areas that are quite visible as you drive around. The most prominent area is the Art Deco area that is now like New Orleans and other older cities that have a society that protects the buildings. While the interior of the buildings can be renovated the facades can't be touched. We also found the other districts fascinating, Little Havana, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Little Haiti, the Jungle Island, Coconut Grove and Brickell. After the bus tour we ... read more

My last visit to Miami was back in January 2013, with the kids, but we had no time for South Beach. So here I am back to a place a lot of you have in their mind, or imagination... My first visit here was some 15 years ago. At the time, South Beach was suddenly back in trend....and the place had just few trendy hotels, the first one being the Delano. The Delano, designed by Starck, opened back in 1999! Today, you have a Ritz-Carlton, a St Regis, a W...and the Faena is re-designing 3 blocks a little North! Art Deco South Beach is back in the game. The high season here is during the winter. Soon, the hurricane season will be back....more rain, and lower room rates! You could easily find a room here for ... read more

"Party in the city when the heat is on, all night on the beach till the break of dawn, we're going to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami" We could not get this song out of our heads since we booked our flight here. We sung it out loud, to ourselves and every time we were reminded of our pending trip to Miami. No telling, we were pretty excited to be heading back to the US albeit for only 2 nights before we fly to Colombia. We looked forward to all the things in the US we missed - the food especially for Chris. It had only been 2 weeks since we were last here. Although we arrived and were flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, we opted to stay in Miami; an hours drive north. An hour if ... read more

Geo: 25.7928, -80.1349Morning! We are up before 9 so we can trot across the street to sign up for the tour. We will start with a city bus tour, have a couple hours in the middle of the day along a bay front for lunch and end with a 90 minute boat tour along "Millionaires Row" where we'll see mansions of the rich and famous. We grab a couple of things from the breakfast table in the hotel, and bring our luggage down to reception. Checkout isn't until noon, but we're getting on the tour at 9:45 and won't be back until 3pm. The hotel doesn't have a true 'held luggage' room, so we stack our bags along with Eve and Leroy's in the hallway. The tour is really fun. We start by driving through the Art Deco ... read more

Geo: 25.7928, -80.1349Yes, it is Super Bowl Sunday and the six of us (Trish's daughter arrived last night, so now we are six) are having our own little fiesta tonight. But first we'll enjoy the day.Without plan we all end up at the small continental breakfast area at the same time, early like 9:15. Toast, yogurt, juice, fruit and coffee are set up on two small tables in a narrow hallway. Lots of "pardon me's" and "Sorries" as we and the other guests maneuver about. I don't think we are the demographic for this hotel as all of the folks I see are young Europeans. We carry our breakfasts outside to the veranda where it is a little chilly but not bad. It is certainly much warmer than at home. As we eat and people watch we ... read more

Geo: 25.7928, -80.1349My suitcase is zippered shut, my passport is in my back pocket...ready to go! After spending the night at the Denver Marriott Airport hotel, Jeff and I met our wonderful traveling companions, Eve and Leroy Measner in the hotel lobby at 5:55 a.m. for our shuttle to the airport. We stayed in Denver overnight because we have an early flight and in Colorado you just never know what the weather is going to be. So, rather than risk a snowy or icy drive, we decided to spend the night in Denver. Happily I had enough points for a free hotel room and since our personal chauffeur (hahaha!) Tom Delaney delivered us to our hotel, we don't even have to pay parking. Thanks, Tom!Denver International Airport is all decked out in blue and orange in ... read more

Getting to Miami from Kissimmee was a bit of farcical ball ache. There was a mix-up with my shuttle bus from Kissimmee to Miami which was meant to arrive at 5:45am - meaning I was up at 4:45am, packed and ready to go - however at 6:10am I called them to ask what was going on and they informed me that when they changed my reservation the evening before due to "technical issues", they changed it to 5:45pm. Brilliant. So stuck in Kissimmee for a full 12 hours more with no car, no room to kick-back in and absolutely nothing to do locally. Joy. So, after a humid walk to Target, a few hours in Starbucks savouring my first cup of tea in 2 weeks, and an hour of doing a Sudoku whilst eating my blueberry ... read more

Geo: 25.7928, -80.1349Day one of our travels was actually planned to be day of relaxing travel since our fight was not leaving Fort Lauderdale until close to midnight. We planned an early morning bus ride to Miami, and hopefully some fun times in South Beach. We had ourselves plenty of time, or so we thought, for Bill to get us to the terminal in Tampa. Stuck in traffic for an hour on the bridge was not factored into the plans. As our arrival time quickly approached, we resorted to the all knowing Google to navigate us quickly. I am fully convinced they know everything. Racing through through the streets of Tampa we arrive with only two minutes to spare. Megabus.com, the party has begun. This next portion of our journey was actually relaxing and uneventful. Surprisingly ... read more
