Leaving our friends Carol and Judy at Venice, we were headed for an overnight at Lazydays RV center, camping and looking at used RVs. But first we had to strike camp and get out of the park. We had the scooter loaded and strapped in, awnings rolled up and Trish, as usual, stowed the inside gear quickly and efficiently. Then it was time to dump the waste. We had a sewer connection at the camp site, but it was down in the ground and I could not get the top unscrewed. I tried tapping with a rubber mallet, twisting with pliers, but no good. So we drove a big circle in the campground and came back to the dump station. Upon opening that sewer, I noticed it had ground water about 12-18" down from the top. ... read more

Hello everyone! As I'm sure most of you already know, we're starting out this new year in a new location. The Air Force has up and moved us again. This is our third address together since we got married a bit over two years ago. This one, though, has a few perks that Dayton, Ohio didn't have. We'll be spending the next two years in Panama City, Florida. We're living in Mexico Beach, which a very small town on the "Forgotten Coast." We chose to live in this tiny town as opposed to in Panama City itself, and I think we made the right call. We live about a half mile from the beach in a town where you don't have to lock up your bike (I asked - they laughed at me and my silly northern ... read more

Our time with Josh, Jen and the grandsons was wonderful. And to have Kim there as well was icing on the cake. But we did do other things than just play with the grandkids and cook for the kids and project around Josh's house. We went to Chamberlains Used Book store. This is a huge 55,000 square foot store with books of all types crammed on shelves. It is mostly used books with some new and also videos and audio books. All books are categorized and in a "reasonably" logical spot. But the staff is very helpful and most have a pretty good idea of what they have and where it is. Maps in the store abound and we have often wandered in and out of the various annexes and sections for hours. I was able ... read more

We left Inverness and headed for Mexico Beach. We followed familiar routes on US 19 (as a kid, this was THE main route to St Petersburg) and found the road devoid of heavy trucks and a peaceful, easy way to go. In Perry we grabbed fuel, lunch, and groceries and followed the "forgotten coast" along the Gulf to Mexico Beach. This is a beautiful route and well worth taking time to savor the views, the shopping and the food. We got to Mexico Beach and to the Rustic Sands Campground, found a site, and set up. This was our third visit and we felt like old-timers, very comfortable with the campground and the area. The tall trees, both oak and pine, gave shade and yet there were open areas where the sun came through and warmed ... read more

Deer Run RV Park in Troy, AL is a great spot to stop for a night or more. Sights were the levelest we have seen and we requested a spot near the bath house because that’s where the hot tub is. After a most pleasant greeting at check-in and two complimentary bags of popcorn, we were escorted to our site and the host offered to help with the hook-ups if we needed. We quickly got water and electric, and then I took a shower while Trish started dinner. I came back and continued dinner prep and setting the table outside while Trish showered. We ate outside as the sun was setting, went in and cleaned up, and then realized we were both too tired to enjoy the hot tub, so went to bed. We were both ... read more
