Washington D.C
The Whitehouse, view from the front, in Washington D.C We slept in a little today because for some reason we were all so tired. We got ready, had breakfast and Jon took us to the cemetery where JFK was buried. There were a lot of military graves here and some very important people who died are buried here. We saw JFK’s grave which overlooked the city of Washington. We had some fantastic views from the cemetery which was located on a hill. Had a bit more of a look around then headed off downtown for lunch. On the way Dave and I wanted to get tickets for the Washington Monument, they were free but you had to pick them up in the morning. Jon dropped us off at the ticket centre right next to the Washington Monument and we’d meet him at the Old Post Office down the road. Dave and I had no idea who wanted to go so we got a few tickets for around 3PM then headed off to meet the group. We walked quite a distance before we realised one again we were going in the wrong direction, but eventually we met up with the group and had lunch together.
Lucy had been to Washington

Arlington National Cemetary a few times before and knew her way around so most of us went with her. Amy and Hannah left us after lunch to find an internet café and call home while the rest of us made our way to the White House. On the way we stopped at the White House visitor’s centre where Dave kept setting off the metal detectors, eventually he just took off his shirt, the woman security guard thought it was hilarious, it still went off. Had a quick look around then continued to the White House. Lucy took us to the back of it where we got some good photos but I was sure that you could see it from another angle, from the front garden. We walked around to the front and stopped off at a small souvenirs store on the way. Dave and I bought some jumpers and a few people bought some tacky presents. It was getting time to go up to the Washington Monument so we made our way around the front of the White House took some photos and headed to the Monument and waited to get in. Not all of us could go up so Dave, Sara and

John F. Kennedy grave 1917-1963 I went up with everyone’s cameras to take photos. Another great view of the mall and all the historical and political buildings that surrounded the Washington Monument, it was fantastic. When we came back down Dave, Ben and I headed off to continue having a look around, the girls started to follow but gave up.
We headed back to the Lincoln Memorial and got some photos during the day and also some great photos with the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool. We had a look at the various war memorials around the mall, some of World War II, some or the Vietnam War. There was one particular monument that Dave and I were quite interested in seeing which was the United States Marine Corps Monument. It was quite a distance from the mall so we hopped into a taxi and got there in a few minutes. It was well worth it, a very famous monument we’d seen before in television and many movies. We got our photos and moved on. We met back at the van at Jon’s delegated meeting point and headed back to the campsite. Dave and Lucy prepared dinner, voted the worst dinner on trek

The Whitehouse, view from the back by everyone. Then we met the other trek group and played plenty of drinking games and got absolutely smashed. I stumbled back to the campsite carrying an esky and passed out in someone else’s tent.
