Washington D.C
Abraham Lincoln memorial at night We woke up today and were all pretty excited because we had two new people joining our group today. We met down into the hotel lobby and saw Jon for the first time in a few days. He looked totally different, much happier and he’d had a shave. We began to pack the trailer with our bags as Jon bought over two girls and introduced them. There was Amy who was the 20 year old and Hannah who was the 27 year old. We each introduced ourselves and had a big chat in the van, welcoming them into the group. They must have felt so intimidated being put in a group of people who had already been together for just over 4 weeks. For most of the day we chatted and got to know the new girls in our group. We arrived at the Washington DC campsite, which was quite a while out of the city, in the mid afternoon. Most of the group was desperate for washing so we washed our clothes and while waiting went for a swim. The other trek group also looked completely different. They had five or six new people in their group and we got

Capital building lit up at night to meet them as well.
Until dinner both trek group were lying around the pool or playing a made up game for most of the afternoon. The girls went back to make dinner (it was their turn) while Dave and I got our washing and headed back up to our campsite. We invented a new beer system where if you take a beer you mark it off, this was because too many people were drinking beer which they had never paid for. So we ate dinner, and some of us drank beer until it was time for Jon to take us on an illumination city tour of Washington DC. We cleaned up and got in the van, our first stop was the Capital Building. All lit up at night it was quite an impressive sight, this is a building I had seen hundreds of times in movies and on television. We hung around and all took photos, behind us was the Washington Monument standing high into the sky. We headed back to the van and our next stop was the Jefferson Memorial which had a big statue of Jefferson in the middle of the room with walls of text

Jefferson memorial on our illumination tour about him. It was an impressive building but nothing like the Capital Building, I took some photos with the new girls and we eventually moved on. Next was the Abraham Lincoln Memorial which was also very famous and something I’ve wanted to see for a while. He sat in his Memorial looking towards the Washington Monument and the reflecting pool, we got some group photos and left.
Last stop was the World War II Memorial which had a large fountain in the middle surrounded in smaller streams of water. It was a very impressive and well built memorial also mentioning all countries which were involved in the war. I spent some time chatting to Amy and Hannah trying to make them feel welcome but it was going to take some time. On the way back to the campsite most of the van fell asleep. Don’t know why we were so tired but as soon as we arrived back at the campsite we all went to bed.
