Herbst

North America » United States » Colorado » Boulder

Attention you skiers out there, I have not forgotten about you either. I was a skier for many years, before old age and common sense took over. Actually, I stopped when my back started giving me trouble in the early 90's. But I loved to ski, and to race and was fortunate to ski all over Colorado, Utah, and California. But Aspen is the best, because it offers a lots of everything: outstanding skiing, great food, crazy people, great shopping, well known celebrities, and lots of night life. I actually went to speak in a series of continuing education (Pharmacy)seminars for [View Full Entry]

Denver

North America » United States » Colorado » Denver
Continued travelling South through Wyoming, passing more cowboy towns. The last week has been a bit like a spaghetti western with all the cowboy and indian towns. Not to much to report today though, travelled another 300 odd miles and reached Denver late in the arvo. On the recommendations of few people we went to Casa Bonita , a mexican restaraunt, for tea. I had heard about it from watching South Park, it was Cartmans fave place. Googled it before we left and everyone said it was a great fun place ,food not so good though. Well they were wrong, the [View Full Entry]

Hello, Everyone -- I am safe and sound in Colorado Springs. As happened the last time I blogged (you'll remember if you were reading it two years ago), my host is not home. I drove MILES to find a Starbucks, and am contentedly using the WiFi until my phone rings and I hear she's home. I have found her home, but can't wait to see the inside! The drive today was gorgeous. Flat in Texas, a little hilly with desert (brown landscape with green blobs) and beautiful bright yellow trees lined up like soldiers every few miles. In Colorado we added [View Full Entry]

One of the things that I missed during my 1.5 years of travel was the family get togethers when we made turtle soup. In stating turtle soup, the first question from everyone's mouth is, "you make soup from turtle?" I then say yes, but the turtle is optional. The soup is made of about 17 ingredients and really is a vegetable soup with chicken, beef and turtle if available or desired. Most people who have never had it, describe it as being like chili. I am not sure how to describe it. For me it is just turtle soup! Because of [View Full Entry]

Boulder

North America » United States » Colorado » Boulder
We had the opportunity this saturday of visiting the town of Boulder. It is known for its student prescence and crazy people. There is alot of colour and diversity here. Alot of us students ventured down to the local tattoo parlour to get piercings (i hear it is a common thing within the ywam denver setting). Many got their noses pierced and some got lips or ears pierced. We had Japanese for dinner - 2nd japanese place i have seen here, im sure!! (you wouldnt believe it coming from NZ right?! haha) It was good but i still must admit, its [View Full Entry]

Glenwood Springs
Glenwood Springs
UP Train Station
Beautiful desert morning. Everything feels a little frosty from the night before. Soon it all heats up but not before we do in our swell kitchenette with nuked oatmeal. Continental Divide tunnels and trucks all day - curvy roads, amazing elevations and few signs, warnings, or directions (but people are used this this out here). Main Theme - Following the Colorado River which gets larger as you get closer to the head. Yet each turn reveals a completely different panorama! Short stop @ Glenwood Springs: Amazing huge, spring fed pool, beautiful old railroad station (but then again a p [View Full Entry]

Boulder Lodging

Life does have a way of rolling right along, doesn't it? I'm beginning to think that I am settling in to this life o' Coloradoness. I'm developing a routine, getting comfortable with the people at work and learning how to get and/or stay in contact with humans other than my parents. Work, albeit your typical high school, part-time job, is... well... working out really well for me. My boss, today, told me that she doesn't often hand out ego-candy, but that she had some to offer to me (direct quote!). They are apparently so confident in my teaching skills that they [View Full Entry]

Delicate Arche

...in order to discover your own roots. There were opportunities in Boston: they taught me to push myself. There was power in Geneva: it taught me humility. There were sights to be seen in Paris: they taught me to keep looking. There were mountains in Vienna: they taught me to keep climbing... but reminded me how it felt to look West. And everywhere, there were people: they were my passion - they taught me how to serve. It's been an interesting couple of months, hasn't it? I spent the 3 months prior to this one trying to recognize the path below [View Full Entry]
