Sat: Y’s first flight, first baseball game! After passing Y’s 2 months mark, things got a little easier and we wanted to restart our travels. We picked Denver because neither of us has been there and it would be a short 2-hour flight. Baby steps :). Friday was all about getting ready. This was going to be a different trip and mindset for V and me as new parents. I think I have everything…except! I realized that the 4:30-am bus from Millbrae to SFO doesn’t run on weekends. Oh no! The only other option was 3:55-am bus to make our 6:30 am flight. Aaand, that’s the last one before BART starts running at 6 am. With a 4.5-month-old, Uber/Lyft are out. This led to 2:30 am alarm, ouch. Going through security with the baby in the ... read more

Anthony's Limo is picking us up at home and will drop us off at DIA. The ride to the airport, check in, passport scan with Australia Visa verification, TSA bag check and train to concourse B all total took only 1 hour. We had plenty of time so we stopped at Elway‘s to share a burger with green Chile and a John’s salad. While we were enjoying the delicious burger, we received a very disturbing text from our friends and fellow travelers, Bill and Jane Loetell. Jane said that they were not allowed to check in for their flights Tampa to Houston to Sydney because there was a problem with their electronic Visa to Australia. We were startled and decided we must go to the United Customer service counter to check on our Visa. We were ... read more

I am actually off on this exploration, jaunt, crazy journey of madness. I am not sure what this is or what this will be. I have been telling people for the last 8 months that I am going on this four month journey, but I still don't believe I am going to do it (even sitting in the airport with my bags checked onto the plane). There is one plane ticket purchased and two weeks of lodging booked at this time. Most people I have talked to about this have shaken their heads and said, "WOW! What an experience, good for you?" Most also ask "Why?" and "How?" Honestly, I have no good answer for either question. I only knew deep in my gut that it needed to done. I don't have a goal, a vision ... read more

We have made it to the walmart parking lot...well.....across the street anyway!!! I guess some hobos were over using the parking lot and “ruined it for everyone else.” Quotes of Tim. So we are now across the street at Home Depot. Maria won the place for us to sleep tonight!!!!! Right when we first left Time aka the Uber hit a bird not even 17 miles into the trip. Just so you all know the bird is not doing too well......it exploded. After our second stop, once again something with Tim's R.V. They forgot to close the door all the way. We are all flying down I-80 and had to make a unexpected stop. Because of Mike their door flew open. At the third stop there was food involved Subway, gas station hotdogs, and also some ... read more

I planned 3 nights in Frederick (suburb of Denver) to meet and get to know another cousin. Jeff’s grandfather is my grandmother‘s half brother. I met his parents a few times when they came out to CA. Jeff is the one that was able to get my grandmother to talk about family history that she never discussed with my family. As it turns out, she must have been too embarrassed to talk about. Jeff is a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan so besides talking about family, we talked a lot about baseball. I was originally going to spend two nights with him but extended one more night as he was able to get tickets to the Rockies vs. Giants game on Monday night. The Giants lost but it was good seeing them play as well as ... read more

Save all to OneDrive - Personal I have been to Denver probably close to twenty times. It is always a great place to visit, dine, drink, carouse, and watch my Giants beat the Rockies. Perhaps these are some more interesting things to do. 1. Win a dildo at erotic bingo. Mooney's in LoDo has Bingo every Monday at 7pm. It is also called "Forbidden Bingo" as a sexy play on the popular senior citizen game. You can also win blow up dolls, and vibrating rings. Most importantly, drinks are 50% off until 11pm. 2. Head over to Barcade for a modern take on "bar meets arcade" that only Denver can do. They have both classic and modern arcade games, 45 games... read more

From a trip in 2011: The Mile High City of Denver was once my second home. I stopped there after almost every trip from the Midwest or East during my business travel days. I even had a set of skis and boots in Evergreen, the toney western metro area of Denver. I would stop there and have my friends Bill, Vern, Ed, Kurt, Art, or John pick me up at the airport. Even the erstwhile mafioso wannabee, Arturo N. from Jersey was part of the plan. After a short evening of rest, we headed out to nearby Winter Park, Keystone, Arapahoe, or Copper Mountain for a day of skiing. We often hit the hot springs in Georgetown on the way home. They often threw me onto the last flight out in the evening back to the ... read more

Like many cities throughout our great country, train stations similar to Denver, Washington, DC, Seattle, have renovated to make the Amtrak experience better. In many cases, the stations have revitalized the older downtown areas where they are located. Here is Denver: After undergoing a massive renovation, once again Union Station serves as the hub of downtown. Built in 1914, the historic landmark sat vacant until developers revitalized it into a fully operational train station complete with bars, restaurants, shops, a Saturday farmers’ market, Tattered Cover Book Store, and the 112-room Crawford Hotel. Dining options range from low to high end, and include Snooze, known for its e... read more

Several jaunts cross country, three that I can recall, have resulted in enough miles for a "free" trip on Amtrak's California Zephyr, from Fresno to Denver in a sleeper car. This is an overnight trip, whereby I leave early Sunday morning, and arrive in Denver around dinner time on Monday. I plan to attend two Giants-Rockies games at Coors Field, take a drive up to Boulder, and perhaps Colorado Springs, for Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and the Air Force Academy. I embarked a similar trip to Denver in 2011, though I flew both ways. I went to see some old ski buddies, but found that most of them either moved away or passed on to that great ski resort in the sky. See my previous emails about Denver for details. This is my fifth ... read more

Day 8 Colorado Springs to Golden/Denver Area So we’ve established that my car has a cooling problem and doesn’t enjoy multi-mile hill climbs. (I like to think that she’s a Prairie Pony). Ken also mentioned to me on our last jaunt through the mountains he isn’t the biggest fan of heights. Naturally we decided the best thing to do was find the biggest mountain in the area and drive all the way up to the top. I am of course talking about Pikes Peak, home of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, held annually since 1916. The 20 mile road carves its way up the mountain side to the peak at over 14 000 feet above sea level, with hairpin turns above sheer cliffs. The race involves driving it as fast as possible without flying off ... read more
