Packing over a period of two days is a great way to make sure that you have everything. Rushing to pack the night before, as rushing in to anything leaves room for error. Having a luggage scale really helps, though the only way I could actually get 50 pounds into my luggage is to put a 50 pound weight into it, it's just not big enough to fit that much. I have been to Germany many times, but this has that potential to be the trip of a lifetime, one of those lifechanging events.... read more

I packed up early and headed to Sequoia N.P. this morning. The first stop was the groove of General Grant Tree, the worlds 3rd largest living tree. The size of those giants is absolutely unreal. It looks as if they are made out of plastic, too enormous to be real. After that I went to the groove of General Sherman Tree, the worlds largest tree, with a volume of over 2.7 million lbs. It is quite awe-inspiring to be standing next to another living thing that began its journey in life 200 years before Jesus walked the earth. The forests of these giants possess great wisdom indeed. July 2009 Planning for a vacation is not easy especially when you haven’t a clue where to go, so my oldest son and I decided to return to Southern California and see some old neighborhoods and visit the grandparents. Plotting the flight and hotel with rental car seems easy and for the most part it is unless you want to stay in one part of the San Fernando Valley and Expedia wants to fly you into Los Angeles airport. Burbank airport was closer to where we wanted to stay, but no matter how we tried, Los Angeles was the airport picked, and not wanting to drive the 405 back and forth, we had a slight change of plans.
