Hi All, In San Francisco at the moment, which is great for the short time I have had to explore thus far....just writing a blog as I seem to have some problems with receiving messages on my mobile. When dialling from the UK you have to send the message or call 0037259539153...this may need to be edited every time you send a text if you are replying, a pain I know.... I will be back on here again, hopefully with som pictures and interesting stories. For now, I seem to be right in the heart of the strip club end of town...and I have seen a few transexuals... that's all for now!... read more

En route to San Francisco, we tried to sort out some accommodation at a place suggested by some other backpackers we'd chatted to; however, we were operating on an ad hoc timeline which meant that by the time we were ready for checking into San Fran, the hostel was full up already. On the Inter State across, we discovered the biggest fast food burgers to conclude what has been a commited and exhaustive survey across America and the prize goes to Carl's Jr. Oh lordy, it's a good thing for us we're leaving the states in a week. From the car park there, we rang up and found a couple of beds in a dorm in some crazy area of San Fran called "Mission". This place is a ghetto and when we rolled in at 01:00am, ... read more

Today started out with a sleep in and a late breakfast at 10am. The plan for today was to check out some of the architecture in San Fran and walk around the Golden Gate Park. The first stop was a tram change at Castro, the homosexual capital of USA - note the rainbow flags! Our second stop was Alamo Square to check out the most photgraphed street in world... apparently. It's known as Postcard Row. The houses are pretty cool. There are dozens of these style houses around San Fran, which is quite amazing considering most of the city was burnt to the ground in the early 1900's, and suffered an earthquake in the mid 1900's. We then spent the majority of the day walking around and around the Golden Gate Park. At first this ... read more

Today was spent cruising the bay at San Fran checking out Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge. The day started with the watch alarm buzzing at 6:45 in the morning - it's sad I know, but we have been sleeping in till 8ish lately! We grabbed a quick bite and caught a couple of trams to Pier 33 for our cruise to Alcatraz - leaving at 9:30. Turns out that the trip to the pier was a bit quicker than we thought. We rocked up at about 7:50 and had to gate crash a cafe that wasn't going to open till 8:30 - everyone just kept streaming in; the shop keeper will probably lock the door till he is ready tomorrow! We finally boarded the boat to Alcatraz at 9:30 and headed out into the ... read more

D Day...ie: Drama Day. Today was filled with it. Our stay in LA was great, but as we waited patiently for our Super Shuttle to collect us from the hotel, and take us to the airport, the minutes ticked by... and the shuttle didn't show. At 9:15, I decided to check out what was going on...LUCKY! The company didn't even have our booking! The next shuttle couldn't collect us until 9:50, which didn't leave us a huge amount of time to catch our 12:00pm flight from LAX. We continued to wait patiently, and thankfully, a shuttle DID arrive. The driver was an angel, and sped his way to the airport for us. I also got to sit next to a very cool dude, who plays trumpet for Van Morrison. He started on the bugle at ... read more

So i arrived here 2 mornings ago.....after only 2hrs sleep and a 4am wake up. Horrible. But i managed to get out and about and explored the city for the day, falling in love with it instantly. The weather has been simply perfect, shorts and singlets and constant sunshine. This is seriously one of my favourite, if not my most favourite city in the world, it's just gorgeous. I haven't had access to a computer where i can download photos yet, but stay tuned!! My first night here was ace, i ran into an aussie guy Gav from a previous hostel and went and watched him play guitar (and sing) at a local open mic night, with a german girl i was sharing a room with. we ended up meeting some locals, and some super ... read more
