Yay the day I had waited for had finally come!! I booked yet, another great cruise slated for January 2014. What a great way to start off the year, much like last year. Island drinks by the pool, fun stage shows, karioke on board, and endless endless buffets and ice cream. Who wouldnt love going on a cruise? Plus whatever port you go to is usually a beautiful sunny island with great culture, food and cheaper prices on purses, jewlry and clothes! Not bad for a short 5 day vacation. Anyway, we traveled into Long Beach the day prior, on Sunday. Being a 13 hour drive from EL Paso...you sort of have to start out a day earlier. And just like last year, we stayed at a seedy, cheap hotel just miles from the port. Only, ... read more

Marry me girl be my fairy to the world Be my very own constellation A teenage bride with a baby inside Getting high on information And buy me a star on the boulevard It's Californication I like to compare California to an amusement park. If god create the world in seven days, he was in a funny mood when he was drawing California x's and o's. It simply has everything. From the ugly to the beautiful, from the beach to the ski, from the wine to the beer, it has it all. Psychic spies from China Try to steal your mind's elation Little girls from Sweden Dream of silver screen quotations And if you want these kind of dreams It's Californication According to James Truslow Adams the American Dream is a set of ideals in which ... read more

We are up at around 05:30 after we have folded away the beds, and shower and dress. It is 06:30 and the train is just stopping at Barstow, it should have stopped there at 03:30, so we are approximately 3 hours behind schedule. Although the tour guide reckons there is an hour of slack in the schedule and we should be only 2 hours late in getting into Los Angeles We eat breakfast in the dining car at around 06:30. The train eventually arrives at Los Angeles Union Station at around 10:00, approximately 2-hours late as predicted by the tour guide. The guide that will take us on a tour of LA meets us. We board the coach and hit the log jam that is the Los Angeles traffic, it was even worst today as there was ... read more

I close my eyes as the plane gains speed, its wheels regretfully lifting off the ground and I can feel the pull of gravity as we move further and furher into the sky. The land falls far below, white clouds move in. I always hate this part: the end of a trip. It's bittersweet, though too often I taste the bitter more than the sweet and I can't help but wish for a delay or that I might have boarded the wrong plane. But I haven't and as China falls far below and I travel back in time over the blue Pacific I think back on the past four months and what they mean to me. I circled the world in hopes of finding an adventure and now I face the important question: did I succeed? ... read more

Geo: 33.7664, -118.192I was so looking forward to sleeping in today. Our shuttle wasn't scheduled until 10:00 and we had nowhere to be before that. So, when 4:30 rolled around and I was awake, I was not happy. I got up and surfed the web for while until Nikki got up. She also beat the alarm. We got the girls up around 8:30 and then Nikki and I ran to Whitewater Snacks to grab breakfast for us all and take it back to the room.We met our shuttle at 10:00 and were off to the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal. Because Sunday morning traffic was so light, we made great time and arrived at the Long Beach Cruise Terminal by 10:20. Did you notice the issue? We needed to be at Los Angeles and we were taken ... read more

There isn’t anything sadder than waking up on Debarkation Day. So, the night before we were given the option to pack and place our bags outside the door for Carnival to carry our bags off or keep our bags and self-debark. Given the time we finished with Chef’s Table (and all that free-flowing wine) the decision really was no longer up to us ... we would keep all our bags and self-debark. Which would have been fine if I had at least started packing the bags that day. It was the crack of 7 a.m. when that annoying noise came over the P.A. system (I don’t remember announcements being annoying during the cruise). “Those choosing to Self-Debark are requested to do so at this time ... blah, blah, blah” I got up and was immediately hot ... read more

The next morning we were awakened by what sounded like an announcement being piped into the ship. I initially thought how cool it was that the Queen Mary carried its authenticity through to making cabin announcements like on a working cruise ship. Come to find out (as I came out of my sleeping fog) it was the Carnival Paradise, docked and trying to kick this weekend’s passengers off the boat ... also known as debarkation. And boy, was she loud about it. Woo Hoo, our ship has arrived. So, up and Aft we went. Hello, Paradise! We spent some time up on deck taking photos of both the Queen Mary and Paradise. Behind us was a set of curious doorways. Hmmm, I wonder what’s through those doors? We have time to find out ... let’s explore. ... read more

One of the perks of staying onboard the Queen Mary is early check-in for the cruise right from the Queen Mary ship. Between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. we could bring all of our bags to the Engine Room of the Queen Mary and everything would be taken care of. Well, we were still running around the QM and really weren’t in any big hurry because we were enjoying what we were doing and, quite frankly, we were already there ... at the Port. There was a certain relaxation to Embarkation day that came with already being at the Port. So, about 11:15 we decided to take advantage of this perk and hauled our luggage to the Engine Room. The process was simple, but what surprised us was the number of people checking in. ... read more
